Default 3 chicks

Merlin is an opaline sky blue yellow face. His mate is Clara, a sky blue normal pattern golden face. The smallest chick is developing the opaline pattern on her head. The others are showing normal dark barring on the head. Does that mean they will both be normal pattern males or could they be female and carry the recessive opaline gene on their second X chromosome?

Welcome to the forums!
I see you have some lovely chicks and beautiful parents as well.
Opaline is a sex link mutation and since only your male is opaline, only his daughters will be visually opaline, they can't carry the opaline in split, hidden form.
Only the male chicks will be able to carry the opaline gene in split form.

Default This is Clara

I think she is a golden face. The yellow factor is blended in with her deep sky blue on the tummy area making it a pretty turquoise with greenish highlights.
Her cere is damaged due to a fight which occurred at Petco before I adopted her.

Default Thanks for your help!

If these pix upload they are of the chicks. The opal one is smaller because she is a week younger.

They're really cute! Another way to tell that the chick is opaline is by checking the fluffy down feathers, you can see that the youngest has more clear white fluffy feathers while the other two siblings have greywish (darker) downy feathers. Due to their mutations you can now be 100% sure that the oldest 2 chicks are visually marked normal males split for opaline and the youngest is a female.
And you're welcome!

Indeed you can, this is all very exciting and you are really lucky to have a breeding pair in which it is easy to tell gender at a remarkably early age, because in most cases this isn't possible until the chicks are much older!
