Default Food dish nest

I'm sure this looks familiar to many, if not all of you
Simultaneously sitting in the food dish, digging, eating AND pooping
(Sorry about quality - flash would have scared him)

Smile Food

Babies love to snuggle 2 or3 on top of each other in the food dish or just in the corner of the cage. Often all of them will have heads in the corner with all tails pointing out which makes me think of ostriches with their heads in a hole. they also like to play under a food dish if you turn it upside down and replace in the food dish slot. They really like to look out through the clear dishes. I wonder if they realize that we can see them. Blessings, Jo Ann

It's the cutest multitasking ever. I just wish I could know what goes on in their sweet little minds when they're doing it.

Yes, this is quite common in young budgies. Most of my weaning chicks would even nap on the food dishes I had for them on the bottom of the cage.
Most likely your Merlin is remembering his younger days on the nest.
