<Cue the Jaws theme!>
Hello again TB!!!
Maya and I are very sorry we were gone for so long. Last semester was really tough. After Grandma passed away I ended up with a severe cold that lasted the rest of the semester (2 inhalers!) that nearly turned into pneumonia, a class that had me in tears (extension was needed), and more family drama (another family death and a near-suicide in the extended family). Maya and I retreated to my parents' house for Winter Break and recharged. This semester I'm graduating, so I'm trying to do the class/look for jobs/do practicum thing (if anyone knows of a job opening for an academic librarian, please
let me know!). So, sorry for disappearing, we missed you all immensely! But I just didn't have the energy to post, though I did drop by occasionally. I'm doing better now, so I thought I would update you all with what has been happening with Maya, including some pictures. Sorry for the long post. Lol.
Maya is fantastic. She is now 8 months and is quite the feisty little diva. She still isn't wanting head scratches, but she loves preening my ear and hair and loves to give kisses and hang out on my shoulder. I had her fully flighted for a couple of months, but had her clipped again a few weeks ago since she was getting into trouble. She was absolutely feisty with her flying and ended up behind the fridge a couple of times, behind the stove, on top of my wall hangings, in the blinds, on top of my closet, and nearly went out the door once. My apartment is mostly one large room and it is impossible to 100% bird proof it, so I reluctantly had her clipped again for her safety. She doesn't seem to mind and has been extremely affectionate with me since the clip. She can still glide quite a few feet, she just can't get height, so this is working well.
Maya still destroys her cuttlebones at a rapid pace, loves her seed and veggies, and enjoys shredding her toys and climbing around her flight cage. If I'm out of sight and she knows I'm still in the apartment she will call for me and always grumbles when she knows I am leaving. Mythbusters is still her favorite show, though Iron Man
is a close second.
Since her big moult ended in Nov we have gone through a monthly small moult. I think we are finally at the end of those though, since I no longer seen pinnies (fingers crossed). I've been giving her twice-weekly baths (showers) since if I don't, she will take one in my water glass! During the worst of the pin feather attacks I've been lightly toweling her after her bath and preening them out for her. She alternates between squawking in indignation and closing her eyes and purring with delight. Afterwards she makes sure that my ears (her current obsession!) are preened in return, as is my hair.
She's 45 grams now, and quite the looker. I took her back to the same vet that did her check-up when I brought her home for her wing clipping and nail trim and he was thrilled to see her. He loves budgies and Maya charmed him silly. She also yelled her fluffy head off the whole time, until the tech and vet had to pause to catch their breaths from laughing so hard. She sulked on my shoulder for a bit while I talked with the vet, and then deigned to give him a kiss goodbye. Absolutely made his day. I have a trip to DC planned and then a conference upcoming, so my parents will be bird-sitting and I'm going to have a very spoiled little girl afterwards, since they adore her.
Now, onto what I'm sure you all have been waiting for. Pictures! I have a ton of new ones, so I just chose a few for this post and I'll post more over the next week or so. I hope you enjoy.

Hello TB! Look how big I have gotten!
And I still have big beautiful eyes! And the prettiest seashell ears.
I had a really good Christmas. I liked the little tree in the living room (Mommy didn't let me play near the big tree since it was 15 ft tall and she swore she would never be able to get me down again. Hehe)
I got a new toy for Christmas that I love to play with.
Though I also love to find my own toys and interesting places to fly to.
Sometimes I chew through the thing holding my toy up, and then there is a loud crash and squawk that makes Mommy come running. That's pretty funny!
And I love to play with Mommy's hair.
And steal her food.
Though I also love to eat my own food.
