Default So many pinnies!

Raz's head has literally just exploded in new feathers! It looks so painful and itchy. He's constantly scratching his head. I've never seen so many before so I gave him a little bath of luke warm water under the tap which he loved.

They're not the best photos but look how many on his little head

Razzi drying after his bath:

Wow that is a fair bit of pins he's got! Raz looks like a porcupine!

Both mine are molting right now and have pin feathers underneath their top layer of feathers, and they are both very very itchy and constantly scratching and rubbing up against the cage bars and sand perches... poor little gits.

Freki actually cries when he scratches, rubs his face/cheeks on his perch i feel so bad for him. Its probably his first or second ever molt of his life.

Doesn't help that here its snowing like mad.. then suddenly its late spring time clear skies and sunshine, then gale force winds followed by flooding rain then rinse and repeat.. in the same week lol. The poor buggers don't know whether they are coming, going, been or gone

If i could molt for them, i would do

Pins or no pins, Raz still keeps his composure! In a few more days he will have his puffy forehead again!

Ouch, Sonnies head looks exactly the same... actually worse, it has the tinge of red raw about it too. I think he is coming out the other side of the worst now, but poor baby, he looks awful... and all for nothing as there are no lady budgies here to impress with his new look.

Poor little Raz. I'm sure he's very uncomforable and will be quite happy when his molt is over!

thanks for the replies everyone .

A couple days later and they're starting to grow out:

Raz is in a more grumpy mood atm due to the moult. He's even standing up to Nemo! She tried bullying him off one of the top perches and he stood his ground and got to sit on the perch for a bit. Nemo is quite the persistent bully though but it's nice to see Raz isn't being the complete pushover he normally is .

Ah - poor Raz. So glad they're grown out. My Dewey has a head full of pinnies at the moment. They really do look like little porcupines .

Yes it is funny they do look like little porcupines! ... His pinnies (on his head) are gone. He's still moulting but at least he's no longer spikey looking probs becuase he's been getting a lot of head preens from Nemo so that probably helps
