Default Impromptu Perch

In getting new branches for Wiki's "Budgie Palace", I was given a rather nice large lateral branch. I thought it would make a nice perch, but I'm lazy. So, to make a table perch with it, I packed it with (heavy) river stones in a heavy vase and hung a familiar toy or two near it to see if Wiki would enjoy having a big, natural perch to hang out on. It's surprisingly stable!

So far so good! I noticed today that there were some pieces of bark on the table, then I found out why - Captain Destructo is back in town!

Great pics and great Idea, I'm looking for an out of cage perch and have one of these vases lying around. I might go and find a nice big birch/beech branch from down our lakes to use as a perch

Am I correct in thinking an apple tree branch is safe? Have an apple tree in my garden that's all.

Apple's on the list of safe from here: https://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml - as long as there's no residual insecticide (check the notes at the top about apple). That site has lots of good information on preparing the perch for use, too. I use the vinegar / soak / dry in the sun approach, and always observe carefully when introducing new branches from a different source.

Great idea! Wiki looks right at home on his new branch. Great job!

There is some conflicting information on whether apple tree branches are safe, but my understanding is that they are. Apple seeds are a definite no no, but the branches and bark should be fine.

Thank you. I don't have any of the other plants on the safe list, so looks like it will have to be apple, but I will treat it before the have contact with it. The tree has never been treated with anything since I have lived here (over 10 years).
