This is Padme, one of my two MALE budgies.
Yes, I am fully aware that "she" is really a "he" but we refer to Padme as a girl... and here is your back story.
Everyone always asks me why I gave a male budgie an obvious girls name. I was fully aware when deciding on which budgie we wanted, from the flock at a local breeder, that I was purchasing two male budgies. I went and visited both as they were being weened and had wanted two males to begin with.
As a newbie, I knew that there was no way I could handle having baby birds. I wasn't going to have the time or knowledge to care for babies and so forth.
I knew prior that I wanted to get two birds. One for myself and the other for my boyfriend.
Both would call the same cage home and keep each other company while I was at school during the day.
I had spent months doing research and knew that if I got a male and a female that I would eventually end up with eggs. I did not want to risk that.
This meant a male and a female where out of the question. I had also read on various websites that female budgies can bicker and have a little sas to them. I was worried about getting two females because of this, but I wasn't against it.
My boyfriend and I went and saw the flock at only a few weeks old. We fell in love with them instantly. Lucky for us, they were both the same gender.
For those still curious about where the names originate from I will give you a clue...
Anakin's last name is Skywalker
yes. I am one of those Star Wars nerds. Anakin is Darth Vader's "real" name and Padme is the princess he marries and eventually has Luke and Liea.
