Question How old is my budgie?

Leo (the budgie) was brought at a pet shop with other birds in an aviary. I was wondering how old does he look? I estimated that he was around 6 months old but maybe older? I'm having trouble taming him- any tips?

First of all, your budgie is 100% female and my guess on age is that she is nearing the 6 months old mark. I can see her cere is starting to tan already.

She is a lovely girl. On the taming part, being a six month old girl, she will be a lot of work but you could still do it. You just need to put time in every day. Good luck

Thank you for the reply How are you able to tell the difference between the sex I thought a blue tip meant the budgie was male?

Budgie boys that aren't mature yet, have a purplish or deep pink cere and get a royal blue cere when mature.
Little budgie girls have powdery baby blue on the edges of the cere with white rings around the nostril area, as they get older the cere begins to turn more white. When they are maturing, the cere will start to get a tan colour, like a light golden colour till the cere gradually turns dark brown and crusty.

She is really pretty! There are tons of tips in the stickies on taming so have a look around. The most important is to be very very patient and expect it to take months not days or weeks to create a great bond with her. Don't believe all the youtube videos that say you can do it in hours or days. Often those are very young birds that will initially be cooperative because they are super young and scared. Trust me, they are likely to grow out of that if you aren't patient patient patient!

Good luck!

I agree, a beautiful little girl! And she looks to be 4-5 months or so to me, she has not quite finished her first molt and does not have really predominant iris rings quite yet
