As I posted a few days ago, I took in my parent's 2 budgies, Berry and Sunbeam! The birds were being neglected by my little brothers and after months of talking about it and trying to find them a new home, they finally gave them to me!
Berry is female, about 5 years old, and overweight. She struggles to move around and climb properly, and her walk is more of a waddle! Although she is hand tamed and loves to sit on your shoulder, she is scared of hands and very cage aggressive due to people constantly poking fingers in their cage (family house is a very very busy house and there are teens, kids, and adults always in and out, and their cage was in a public area). She is also a random biter. Her tail fell out a year or two ago and has not grown back.....probably nutrition related. They were on a seed mix with occasional veggies, usually lettuce, and didn't get out much due to busy human lifestyles and my parent's new dog, who is not trustworthy with animals like the older dog. She has never really lost her 'baby weight' - she has tried to raise babies with Sunbeam, but of her 3 clutches over the past 2 years, only 1 egg was ever fertile and it never hatched.
Sunbeam is about 4 years old, male (although for a while we weren't sure as all of his eggs with Berry were duds....but finally he did fertilize 1!). He is kinda skinny due to Berry's food aggression and pushiness. LOVES all veggies offered, very sweet bird. Unlike Berry, the constant cage poking has made him nervous and skittish, and although he will sit on your finger or shoulder, the slightest noise or movement will send him flying away!
If I hide behind this kale, maybe I am invisible...
Currently they are in separate cages so that Sunbeam can be fattened up a bit and Berry can slim down! I also want Sunbeam to regain his confidence apart from her constant henpicking, and Berry hopefully will calm down on cage aggression in a calm environment.
