Default My 4 amigos (and some questions)

Quieksen, Oliver, Hantzie, and Rainbow Rob

I am not sure if i registered twice on this site. If I have a dupe membership I apologize for I do not remember all the forums I belong to.

I read that budgies develop a distinct iris as they become adults. Do any variety's keep the pitch black eyes as an adult? Hantzie is the biggest of the birds and I suspect the oldest. I am very sure she is an adult but her eyes are pitch black still. she is solid green from the waist down and solid yellow above. I also noticed she sits "hunched" and has a pronounced breast. Her black eyes make her look demonic lol

Rainbow on the far right is 8 colors. yellow face and tail, grey sides with the purple cheek feathers. She is also dark green on her lower back and the rest of her is blue, and a tourquise color and black, white wings. He looks very "pastel" in person and his back is more ribboned with the blue, green, turquoise. How is it that he is so colorful? Is it rare for a parakeet to have such a color variety?

Also how long will it take to tame a budgie? I had the girls for 2 months and they are refusing to tame down. once in a blue moon they will let me touch them.

Welcome to the forums!
You have a beautifully coloured flock there! Indeed your Hantzie is a recessive pied budgie and in this particular colour mutation, they all keep the fully black "baby" eyes. Males also keep their baby pink ceres, never developing the normal royal blue adult colour.
As to the taming, if both your boys are tame enough you can use them to your advantage and your budgie girls will follow suit when it comes to handling. I have used this method before and it worked quite well.
If you want more info and tips on taming, you can check the training and bonding section of the forums.

the girls sometimes let me pet them but when i approach they just fly circles around my head and reland in the same spot. in general when i let them out they go streight to the boys and sit on their cage all day trying to break in actually lol

He is 8 colors. his back is ribboned in blue tourquise green and white his hches is blue and tourquoise with a little green woven in and head and tail are yellow. when i saw him I bought him for he is so beautiful. actually the 2 males are more affectionate with each other than the girls are to each other. Oliver ( the olive beak boy) loves to groom rainbow. he spends all day grouming rainbows neck and head. sooooo cute

Hantzie is a recessive pied female ,I have male recessive pied that looks just like her named Summer...and Rainbow is so gorgeous, he is absolutely stunning I would be so proud to be his mommy, where did you find him? If you post a pic of him and ask his mutation someone can help you figure out exactly what his mutation is..

Oh and by the way in my experience(even though I love my females lol) males are more affectionate to other budgies and humans then females lol..
