Question My first budgies

Hi,
I just got my first two about four days ago. I have started to hand train them. The male is the only one that will step up on to my hand. When i go near the female she starts to walk away slowly or fly around in my room
(i train them when in flying around my room, not in the cage).

Also, Does anyone know any good names for them?

What should i do to get the female used to stepping up on my hand like the male?

female

male

Welcome to the Flock! It takes time to train budgies, so take your time. In the end it will turn out to be priceless, when your budgies come to you! I have 30 budgies and they all fly too me when I go into their aviary ...John

Welcome to the forums and the ever exciting world of budgie ownership.
Since it's your first time having these wonderful creatures, I suggest you read as much as you can about them and their care if you haven't done so already.
Training a newly bought budgie to step up and be tame doesn't happen overnight, in some cases it may take months for them to warm up and feel perfectly comfortable. You should also give them both time to adjust to their new surroundings so that no unnecessary accidents happen.
As to the names, I'm sure once you get to know them, you won't have any problems in naming them.
Best of luck with your gorgeous budgie couple!

HI!! You asked what to name them. I see your profile name is Metallica. Why dont you name the male budgie: Metti (or Metta) and the girl budgie: Allica (or Ally?)

Welcome to TB, usually we advise owners to let the budgies become settled before you try to handle them at all. Training and bonding is a lovely experience all budgies are different in personality as well . Your budgies need to trust you they will hesitate to come out of their safe cage if you are catching and chasing them around. Read the training journals and different ways you can go about it.
