Default My white budgie has pink

I was given a white budgie few months ago and cannot believe that he has now developed pink on his tail and wings. The top of his head is even pink. I have never seen this before (not that I've seen a lot of white budgies). Hopefully, I can add a picture of him here that will show it up. Just curious. He is so pretty [IMG]

Well, I don't think I did that right. I copied the url after uploading to photobucket. So sorry.

Your budgie is beautiful!
Do you by any chance have a pink mineral block or iodine block? Maybe a pink or red toy that has been played with? Pink coloured budgies don't exist in real life, so he must have been playing with some toy that got wet and the dye passed on to him or eating/using the mineral block.

Every once in a while there is a thread here about pink/red budgies. Some pet stores purposely dye the budgies feathers in order to make them more appealing. There are no such thing as a pink or red feathered budgie, there are only two main base colours: white (for blue budgies) and yellow (for green budgies). Those pinkish/reddish dyes do come out after some water misting/bath.

Sorry, maybe I should have clarified. While I agree that there is no such thing as a pink budgie, there IS such a thing as a pink Bourke Parakeet... Is there not? Rosy Bourke, I think they're called? I just did a google search, but people here would be able to give a much quicker (and likely more accurate) answer than a 5 minute Dr Google search.

This _IS_ a budgerigar, right? Not a bourke's parakeet? (I don't have a clue if that's even possible, but it's worth bringing up)

Yes, and Rosy Bourkes are clearly a different species. I was only referring to budgies, since the bird in the picture is a budgerigar.
There are many different species in the parakeet family and all have their differences. A budgie can't have natural pink feathers unless they are dyed.

Sometimes there are things that are in our Budgie's environment that you would think are colourfast but are clearly not maybe a mineral block, a brightly coloured toy or even coloured pellets can stain them. This is because food dyes are most often used to colour bird items

Wow we pay hundreds of dollars to get a lovely pink hue to our hair and all we needed to do was rub our heads on a budgie toy
Your budgie is definitely white still as the others have stated but I must admit the colour suits very well what a cutie
