Smile It's been 6 months since I've seen my fids and been on here

5-6 months ago my house became very badly infested with bird mites thanks to infested pigeons that I naively let nest on my balcony. Since then I've had to have 3 sprays done and had to completely wash all my furniture and clothing and sent my budgies Raz and Nemo to my aunt's and cousin's house to keep them from getting infected themselves. I did have them get a preventative treatment of ivermectin just incase though and they've been living heathily since then .

I still haven't brought them back yet as I feel so paranoid that maybe the problem still exists and the moment the fids get back hiding mites will come out and it will be hell all over again. Seriously I've never experienced a pest infestation before but those mites were horrid. I spent close to 2 months being bitten by things I could barely even see. Even my bf refused to stay over for those few months lol.

I have visited my fids as regularly as possible and I'll hopefully be getting them back soon I just want to do another quick over-all clean before bringing them back first though and yeah I'm probs just being overly paranoid lol.

My aunt has also kept me updated on the fids' by sending me pics. I also took some the last time I visited.

Here they are:

Miss Nemo

Handsome Raz

Raz serenading his Missus ♥♡

The Dynamic Duo

Raz and Nemes chilling out on my cousin much to his annoyance

Raz chilling out on my uncle and Nemo wondering what the little spikes on my uncle's face are

Hope you enjoyed the pics

Nice to see you back on the forums, and sorry to hear about your mite infestation!
Sound's nasty! Good for you for sending the keets away to keep them healthy though!

Oh, 6 months is way to long to be separated! Thankfully you have a safe place for them while you are fixing the mite problem. I love the picture with Raz and your uncle. Raz is probably wondering when those pinnies are going to open up!

Thanks. It's nice to be back amongst a budgie-loving community . It was horrible but at least the fids are well .

I know!! It's been ages. The house is so quiet without them and funnily enough it's soo easy to keep clean. It's only been after they've been gone that I realised just how messy their seed and feathers are lol

And yes! Thats my fav pic too! I love it

Take some pieces of yellow paper and smear with vasoline or another scentfree sticky substance. Put on a stick or hang around the house. Put them where you think you may have mites or just put them everywhere. They will draw insects and they will get stuck in the vasoline. You can inspect the pieces and see if there are any mites present. Good luck. Hope they are all gone.

You may find premade insect traps and strips at the gardening stores.

Oh, gee, I'm so sorry to read about your problem.

I didn't know that bird mites might bite humans, too. UGH UGH UGH My birds are in our bedroom.

How fortunate that your aunt and her family have been able to care for your budgies for you.
I'm sure you're anxious to have them home and I hope the mite problem has been resolved now for good!
