Talking Penry Loves his Veggies!

Penry has slowly but surely grown to LOVE fruits and veggies! He bounces up and down with excitement when he sees me bringing produce to him. I have to lock him up now if I want eat salad or a piece of fruit because he will try to take it from me! Here are some pictures of him eating fruits and veggies.

Sharing strawberries with Mommy:

Penry's first banana:

Nibbling on Cilantro I left in his play area:

I had a variety of budgie-friendly food in my fridge, so I chopped it all up, mixed it together, and froze it in ice cube trays so we always have some good treats for Penry on hand. I had broccoli, spinach, cilantro, raspberry, strawberry, carrots, red pepper, and leftover quinoa. And I threw in a little seed for good measure

...Then I gave it to Penry for him to enjoy!

Thanks for looking!

What a good boy your Penry is, it's great that he is already having so much variety in his diet, you are doing a great job with him!
I love that last picture of him finishing up his healthy meal, he looks really happy too!

Penry is a very fortunate little guy to have such a good Momma!!
Freezing the portions for him is a great idea -- makes it easy to have the good stuff on hand for him so he'll continue to be a very healthy and happy boy!

Aww, thanks! He is such a good boy and we love him so much! He was in hog heaven eating all those veggies

It took a long time for Penry to go near a vegetable. We just kept offering them and offering them- in his cage, his play pen, and we had some handy when he was playing on us. He likes to try to eat what we are eating, so when we had budgie-safe plates of food we would let him peck at our plates. That helped him realize that veggies were tasty! We also offered broccoli by hand and he really liked that (I think he tried it because we usually offered millet by hand). We gave him water with parsley/cilantro/spinach in it to encourage him to bathe and taste those veggies. It just takes a lot of patience! Still, he won't eat some things. For example, he is TERRIFIED of blueberries, absolutely freaks out if we show him one and won't go anywhere near it if we leave it out for him.

Thanks! I'm glad I froze those portions, it makes things a lot easier if I'm busy or if we don't have his favorite veggies on hand. He prefers fresh but this is a good plan B.

I love the idea of freezing little portions! It's becoming a challenge to keep as much variety as I feel like Sammy should be experiencing in the house at all times (especially since we live in an area where you really have to go with what's in season, which is limiting). Thanks for the idea!!

He's a veggie-holic! What a lucky boy to have such variety and how great for you that he wants to eat healthy food. Good on you for persisting. He'll be like popeye soon.

Great photos.
