Default Signs of illness?

Hi can anyone recognise a sick bird I would love to know if this budgie was sick before I got it?

Does it seem depressed or lonely?

Budgies are experts at hiding illness. It is their only survival mechanism besides flight, in the wild. Sick budgies will normally be puffed up looking, lethargic, and sleepy. They may have a squinty look to their eyes, which also could look dull instead of the normal shine. Droppings will usually be runny. They may have a click in their breathing, discharge from nares, etc. There is a ton of info available here, and a lot of knowledgable folks. I hope you stick around and give this budgie ownership another try...

Lot of us here consider ourselves addicts. Love to have you stay. Maybe consider getting one from a reputable breeder. It will put the odds in your favor of getting a bird with less chance of sickness or genetic weakness...

Edit to add: sorry for being rude....welcome to talk budgies. I think it is the best...

If your cage housed a bird that died, you just need to thoroughly disinfect and clean the cage, any toys, food & water containers and perches, and yes you can use it again!

I use an antibacterial soap, as hot water as I can stand putting my hands in and a couple of "glugs" of vinegar. I scrub completely, then rinse until I can no longer smell the vinegar and dry completely. Any wooden perches I throw a bit of salt in the water too - bugs hate salt. On any new wooden branch/perches I start using, I've scrubbed then dried and popped in the oven on a very low heat for 20 minutes or so.

Everyone has their own way of cleaning cages etc ... just do what works for you.
