Default Life and Times of Kermit

It's been a long hard trying road, but we got there in the end :-) im so very proud of my kermit and his will to be here! My very special little cobalt has made me respect budgie parents on a new level!

For those who don't know, he/she is the sole survivor of a set of 3 eggs I incubated, I've hand raised him from the moment kermit hatched! Feeding was so easy with the only annoyance being frequency and temperature checks. The first 4 days were the absolute hardest with double shifts at work and 2 hour feeding day and night!

I'm now rewarded with my little froggy happily following me everywhere I allow it! Hehehe ... PICTURE SPAM!

Yep, 110% hatched in incubator and raised solely via me on high quality hand raise mix to farex with egg n biscuit with glucose powder and crushed seeds :-) that first row of pics you'll see me feeding him on day one :-) kermit shows remarkable signs for a companion bird, obviously lawl, and nature is what I expected from his parents :-) proud of this trooper!

It sure has been a challenging journey for you and little Kermit, but in the end the love and appreciation he already has for you pays off, no doubt there!
You have been doing a remarkable job with Kermit!

From those pictures I'm more sure now that he is indeed a cobalt blue normal budgie. If his father is indeed opaline, then Kermit will be split to opaline and will definitely be a male, because this trait is sex linked. A male visually opaline paired up with a non opaline female will have 100% females who are visual opalines and 100% normal males who are split for opaline.
He's not showing spangle markings, his markings are all normal and spangle is a dominant mutation, budgies either have it or they don't (there is no split form).

I figured very early he was male (hence kermit) and i guess i just hoped so much for a hen to put back with its father or the cobalt in the aviary, that I seen what I wanted hahaha that indeed makes him normal split for opaline. Though I'm feeling now that kermit may not see the aviary but be our companion as surly being male and solely hand raised he's 95% bound to talk if given the attention. I've not decided what's best for kermit, assimilation or family companion. That's my next hard decision, deciding his definition of a normal life :-)

What a beautiful baby boy!

You've raised him with so much love and care. I am sure he will be a friend for life.

You will forever be his momma and I think he will be best suited as an indoor pet, but you can socialize him with the other budgies and let him interact with them as well (you can do so as soon as he is fully feathered and confident on his perching skills). He can have the best of both worlds and in the end you will have to decide what is best when it comes for his overall happiness.

I have hand fed and raised my lovebird Khaleesi, due to parents neglect and rejection. Even though it wasn't from day one like your kermit, my boy quickly became attached to me and I to him and by the time I wanted him to have a bond with my other lovebirds, I noticed the flock didn't accept him. They flat out ignored him, even his older sibling from a different clutch. I then turned to the budgies and only one has accepted Khaleesi and even fed him a few times while he was growing up. Still to this day, Khaleesi prefers me over his current budgie friend. I am the whole world to him and in a way all he needs to be happy. And I also cannot live without him.
