I lashed out and bought an enormous cage for my budgies. Got it all set up yesterday and put them in there last night. They absolutely love it - I assume so judging by the amount of noise they're making!!
It's a safety cage which is meant to attach to the side of an indoor aviary. In other words, you walk into the safety cage and shut the door, then walk into the aviary and shut the door. Stops the birds from getting out. Unfortunately for me, this means that one entire side of the cage is a door, so I have to be careful that the cheeky monkeys don't escape!
As the cage doesn't have a base, I built a timber frame for it to sit on. I've also made a trolley out of MDF and some castors, which I can slide in and out from underneath the cage in order to make cleaning easier. Part of the reason for getting this cage was so that the birds and their mess could be contained in one area, rather than having them fly all over the house and poo everywhere!
All set up with perches, toys etc.
Time to move in. "What the heck's that?!"
There was one escapee (Duke) but after a short while, they were all in
How tiny does their original cage look?
I never, ever would have thought I'd say that cage was tiny!!
Oliver, Quincy and Rascal have moved into it. They like it too, but are desperate to get out to see the others
The next step is to attach clear contact/plastic sheeting around the outside near where their food is, so that it doesn't end up outside the cage. They've been in there for less than 24 hours and the floor is a mess already!
