Default Our Birds today.. just an update

During their out of cage time today.. Can't believe my two little ones aren't so little anymore..

Can anybody tell me why Lemony, the bird on the lower right, has that one long feather.. why not one on both sides?? Is that from a wing clip?? She was clipped when I got her 9 or so months ago, and it was like that and it has never changed. Maybe it's normal?

thanks..

Judy

Judy,

That is one of Lemony's flight feathers.

The ones on the other side haven't grown back from the wing clip she had when you got her. They may have cut the feathers way too short when she was clipped.

I love this picture -- are you still going to let the babies go to your family friends?

Aw, what a lovely little budgie family
Looks like Lemony's right flight feather wasn't cut along with the rest of them. When she molts, they'll all be back

They are so cute! She just might have not grown in her other flight feathers. Mine were like that too as they were growing them back in after a molt.

Hi FaeryBee.... thanks for merging these... I couldn't figure out how to do it.. shows what a dinosaur I am.
Wow.. I would have thought that would grow back like the other one. Since that feather is so light, is she a greywing like her little one is??
About those little ones.. I don't think the friends were quite as interested as it first appeared.. so that is fine with me. I think they are too young to be going through that adolescent phase you mentioned, but someone forgot to tell them that..

Thanks for saying they are a lovely little family!! (As you may know, they were accident babies... but because of they help I got from this forum, they were born and remain healthy!)

I wonder if those feathers will ever be normal??

Unless her feathers were severely damaged from a really bad clip, they should grow back when she has a major molt.

Are your birds molting now? Mine are all going through their seasonal fall molt at this time.

I can't help you with mutations -- that's something I just never felt like taking the time to learn. I'm sure someone will come along that can answer that question for you though.

Did you get an air purifier for the room you have the budgies in?

I have a Honeywell 50250 air purifier in my bedroom since I share that room with 2 budgies, 3 lovebirds and 2 shelties.
I think it’s a great product. It is a bit noisy and I sometimes have to turn it off to hear the TV if all the birds are chirping at that time as well.

The one you are talking about is pretty. Mine had the same thing going on. When the clipped wings were growing back that one long feather was the first to come in. You bird may have lost the one on the other side. I seen that with my birds but it will grow back. With mine it seemed like once the flight feathers started to grow back the process was very very fast
