I have a cute overload for you all. Sorry once again I fell off the budgie map after my last set of pictures, but work has been killing me. I have excellent news though!
I have a new budgie baby! The breeder I've been working with had a sky blue violet (?) dom pied spangle boy in the next clutch and I jumped on him. We thought he may be an opaline but instead looks like he just has lighter bars. His uncle generally places well at the show bench and I barely was able to pry this baby away from the breeder, he looks so good. She saved him for me though and I picked him up today. He is gorgeous and utterly adorable.
He's a handfed English and currently weighs 47 grams. He is going to be a big boy. Maya is 45 grams and she is 2.5 yrs old. He is still a bit freaked out but with two hours of bringing him home he was asking for head scratches and preening my fingers. He is obsessed with my hair and has already started preening himself while sitting on my finger. He keeps making a little clicking sound with his beak but I'm not quite sure what that means. Everytime I talked to him he fluffs his head feathers up and down and does the happy eye squint. Very pleased at home quickly he is relaxing and responding to me.
I'm keeping him separate from Maya and Tessa in another room for now. Pretty hard to quarantine in a small one bedroom apartment that has an air system separate from the rest of the building (air keeps circulating between the rooms) but he is going to stay separate for now. He needs to relax and bond with me and then I'll move him next to the girls but in a separate cage. I'm gong to introduce him to Maya very slowly so she will hopefully eventually accept him moving in with her.
I'm leaning towards the name Remiel (Remy for short) but I haven't decided yet. What do you guys think?
And now for the fun part. Pictures! If you look close at the last set of pictures you can see that he has two different shades of blue. He is predominately sky blue but he does have distinct patches that are violet. And his cheek patches are violet as well. I'm interested in seeing if he will keep the two-tone blue look or if he will molt to one color. Anyone have any ideas?
Sorry the last set of pictures is pretty poor quality. He was still pretty freaked out and so I didn't want to scare him too much with a camera in his face. I'll get and post more over the next few days once he relaxes more.
Congrats on the new arrival. I am sure he will be a delight.
Thanks! I'm already smitten. He is just so precious. When the breeder told me that she had a sky blue dom pied spangle and was I interested, my only response was YES! Maya is split recessive pied and she is a spangle too, so if I decide to breed them the babies could be very interesting. (When the breeder found out Maya is a rec pied split I almost didn't get to take her home from the club meeting. Lol. Maya is gorgeous too so there was definitely some coveting going on. Lol.)
The babies are always so sweet to cuddle with. I love the handfed babies too, since they enjoy people so much.
Congrats on your extremely cute and gorgeous budgie boy!
In that last set of pictures he does appear to be a sky blue violet budgie, the colour seems to be too rich for just a sky blue.
By the way, I like the name Remy.
RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
