So I've been meaning to post pictures of my Apollo. He is 3 years old and incredibly smart. He is hand tame and wow the stories I could tell. My favourite story in particular is if I am sitting with him on the couch and my cat jumps up to lay beside me, he won't have it. Apollo will literally jump down and chase the cat off the couch my second story... Ok so I like to crochet. I am currently working on an afghan for my sister in law, so if Apollo's cage door is open, he will find a way down to me, this is where he is incredibly smart and he is clipped so he can't fly too far, and like a cat he will play tug of war with me via the yarn that I am using. He watches it slowly move and he will either grab it with his beak and tug back on it or he will attempt to stand on it thinking that he is heavy enough to hold it down He is such a cutie and makes me laugh every day.
I would suggest you re-think allowing him to be out in the same room with your cat no matter how "friendly" you think your cat is. All it takes is one unexpected moment and you may no longer have Apollo anymore.
There are SO many stories from members who "thought" everything was just fine between their budgie and their dog or cat only to have the budgie end up being severely injured or killed.
Dont worry when the two of them are in close proximity I keep a VERY close eye on my cat. Even the slightest change in body language i quickly separate the two of them immediately. Apollo had an incident 3 weeks after we brought him home. My roommates cat at the time knocked his cage down and Apollo was injured to where the vet only gave him 48 hours but she also gave me an antibiotic to help fight off infection. His vision cage is currently strapped together with cable ties in places where he wont get hurt.
I have a photo some where of Apollo playing with yarn that wasn't rolled up in a ball. I can't seem to find it but when I do I will post it but I have a feeling that it was on my other phone before I had to replace it. But he sure is a little character. I call him my little pitbull he gets so territorial about his cage, you touch one of his toys and he just loses it
I love your pictures of Apollo! He looks so cute! My own Sammy also wants to play with the yarn while I'm crocheting, although I don't let him because I don't want to risk fibers getting into his crop. Sounds like you don't have that problem with Apollo, which is great!
I also just wanted to say to please re-think allowing your cat and budgie to be in the same room together. My very well-behaved miniature schnauzer is scared to death of my budgie and would never do him any harm, but he accidentally stepped on him several months ago. Luckily Sammy came out unharmed, but I felt so guilty afterwards. Now I only let Sammy out when our dog is in another room or trapped in the hallway.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures of your Apollo with his yarn toys
