But my sweet angel still was up for head rubs. We had his first/well bird exam today. I am lucky to live in a large city and be able to see a Certified Avian Veterinarian and he's only ten minutes away. Baby Budgie's visual examination showed no problems. He's very young, just under eight weeks old. He is just now getting in some wing feathers under his wings even, but old enough to be weaned. He took blood for a CBC, just to get a baseline. I'll know the results tomorrow morning.
The vet said that he's a beautiful bird, obviously from show lines. He said that when I named him, be sure to give him a gentleman's name. He said he's a dignified looking boy, and very nice. My husband suggested Winston, but I'm still not sure. Theodore comes to mind. I'll let you know when he's been named. I've read your comments with suggestions. Thank you, all! He's a bit tired now. It's hard being so young and handled as he was AND giving blood to boot.
How nice to hear the doctor say he looks great and what a very nice bird he is. And I don't want to be negative, but he did also say that especially show budgies, well, they have a history of having poor health issues due to their genetics. Especially IF the birds in his line didn't have the best health or were inbred for colors with him being a mutation. He did say that he would love to see me prove him wrong and have my budgies more than five to seven years. He said that with a good diet and exercise, along with good genetics from good breeding, I might just do that.
