Default Avian Vet Visit Wears A Fellow Out

But my sweet angel still was up for head rubs. We had his first/well bird exam today. I am lucky to live in a large city and be able to see a Certified Avian Veterinarian and he's only ten minutes away. Baby Budgie's visual examination showed no problems. He's very young, just under eight weeks old. He is just now getting in some wing feathers under his wings even, but old enough to be weaned. He took blood for a CBC, just to get a baseline. I'll know the results tomorrow morning.

The vet said that he's a beautiful bird, obviously from show lines. He said that when I named him, be sure to give him a gentleman's name. He said he's a dignified looking boy, and very nice. My husband suggested Winston, but I'm still not sure. Theodore comes to mind. I'll let you know when he's been named. I've read your comments with suggestions. Thank you, all! He's a bit tired now. It's hard being so young and handled as he was AND giving blood to boot.

How nice to hear the doctor say he looks great and what a very nice bird he is. And I don't want to be negative, but he did also say that especially show budgies, well, they have a history of having poor health issues due to their genetics. Especially IF the birds in his line didn't have the best health or were inbred for colors with him being a mutation. He did say that he would love to see me prove him wrong and have my budgies more than five to seven years. He said that with a good diet and exercise, along with good genetics from good breeding, I might just do that.

Aww, I'm glad little budgie is all healthy! He really is one of the most gorgeous budgies I've ever seen, and I hope you do prove him wrong!

Oh, and haha we kinda all went crazy over the names!
I also like Winchester
Agreed with the gentleman's names, for such a dapper fellow, no other name will do!

Baby Budgie is looking great for having been through such an exhausting day today.

I think a "gentleman's" name makes perfect sense for your little fellow.

All of my birds have "official" names but then nicknames.

For example, Skipper's name is:
Sir S╠OLTACH BRODERICK TALONSWOOD

S╠OLTACH SHEEL-tahk

Yes, dignified for sure. Nothing less could be expected of a little fellow who is obviously budgie royalty....I know budgie royalty when I see it...

Randy's right - he REALLY does know royalty as he serves the Royal Family of:

King Solomon, Queen Seffra, Prince Solterion and Princess Samara

Baby is so adorable and healthy. Good news from the vet. Whatever name you choose will be perfect for him. More photos, please.

I love the picture of your tuckered out little baby! It's great that you have a good relationship with your avian vet - the first step toward your budgie living a long and healthy life!

I love Winston and Theodore! Theodore might be a bit easier to pronounce for a budgie (or Theo) if he talks! My budgie says "Watson" with no problem - my dog's name!
