Default Some more pics of my budgie

So now I will just post some more about my Arashi. He has grown from a baby into what looks like an adult (well, he is only around 6 months so not quite there yet!). He has been moulting for what seems like ages, although it is not so bad anymore. He has also grown some of his wing feathers out and has started trying to fly, but I think he needs some more wing feathers and more practice..

He has also come a long way in bonding with me (I think). He comes to the cage bars whenever I sit near the cage, frequently jumps on my hand/arm when I put it in the cage (although sometimes he's just not in the mood.. he never flies away at least), enjoy little kisses, frequently preens my skin on arms/on the neck and climbs on and off my hands/arms/shoulders/fingers whenever he is out of the cage. He enjoys playing fetch with his little ball (I'm the one fetching, of course ) He will also preen himself and do stretches while sitting on me, so I think he's comfortable.
He doesn't sing very much when he's out with me, does this mean he is not happy or is he just listening?

Anyway, I have been thinking about getting him a friend, which was the plan to begin with. I think the right time is approaching. I went to a bird expo today and saw loads of beautiful birdies. I saw that my two (excellent) pet shops here got new budgie babies in before the weekend so I plan to go pay the shops a visit tomorrow. I think his level of comfort with me is okay so that I can introduce a new bird to the flock?

Now to the pictures!

Still looking like a baby.

Plagued by pinnies as he starts to transform into his adult look.

Overseeing my thesis work from the laptop.

Wet (adult looking) budgie!

He's turned into a beautiful grown-up budgie!

It sounds like you have a great bond with him. He may be quiet when he's out with you because he's out of his "safe" environment; his cage. If you play some soft music, put the TV on, or perhaps play some budgies noises, he will probably perk up and sing along.

Getting him a pal will probably be lots of fun for him! Are you planning to follow quarantine?

Thanks for sharing your pictures!

Your Arashi is a cutie and he has grown beautifully!
Good luck on your search of Arashi's future friend.

Oh my goodness, he is too much. So handsome and he looks like a real sweetheart. I did so much reading on one vs. two and while I wanted a bird who would be bonded to me, I felt bad about knowing that while I can give a great home with toys and a large cage and try to do enrichment things for them, it isn't the same for him without someone of his own kind. We get pretty busy sometimes with kids and work and such. Having another Budgie seemed to help Russell trust me faster. I wondered if he thought, "Well, that fellow trusts her and she hasn't done anything to anyone, so maybe she really is okay." LOL They both sit on my shoulder at the same time, they both shower with me, they both call to me, they both will occasionally preen me...and when I am busy with work, cleaning, busy with my child's sports, etc., they have each other. It's worked out well for all of us. Follow your intuition. You know what is right for you and that handsome fellow. Thanks for sharing all of those pics.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

Right now I'm at home most time and most days but in the not-so-distant future I will start working, meaning I can't spend as much time with Arashi. Also when I was younger my parents had a big outdoor aviary and I used to spend hours and hours just looking at the budgies interacting with each other. They are so funny and interesting and I definitely want to provide Arashi with a fellow budgie one day

The shops had no budgie that I think would be a match with us, so will wait for a month or so until breeding season really starts before I look again.

Enjoy your mondays!

Edit:
Forgot to answer the quarantine question. I do plan on quarantining the new bird when I get one, however, I expect it will be difficult because my living space is very small. Anyone else have this same issue? It basically means that the new bird would be stuck in a room which is not used for much else but sleeping, so no exposure to everyday noises etc.
