Default Moulting is not fun say Pippin and Henry!

So this is my first experience of moulting and rather handy Pippin i think is going through her first adult moult and Henry has decided to join her with his first moult.

I've never seen so many feathers! I didn't think my little Pippin would have that many. Every time i came home from work it had looked like she has exploded all over the floor but my poor little girl has been miserable! I was so worried about her weight as well she has always been slight but this has really taken it out of her. I've now gotten them some flax seed and given them extra egg food and this seems to be helping a lot. Here are some pictures of my little waifs

You can't really see her little pinnies but they are all over her head. she wont let me get closer to her because she is my little scaredy bird and even more so now she is moulting.

Moulting is tiring! i took this a few days later and they are looking a bit better from afar.

Look at Henry's big boy spots coming through! I notice he has little yellow patches on his chest now as well. I'll have to do a before and after when he has finish his moult

I spelt Pippin's name wrong cos i'm a dope!

Pippin doesn't look very happy in the first pictures, that's for sure.
As you indicated, they both look better in the last picture -- hopefully their molts won't last too much longer.

Are they taking baths to soothe the itchiness or do they like being lightly misted?

I fixed Pippin's name in your thread title for you.

My birds are odd little creatures that are not interested in either, they have access to a bath every day and not used it once. I do mist them though because i know it must feel much better once i have, especially Pippin, she must hurt a lot considering the amount of feathers she has lost.

Thank you Faerybee! silly me getting my birds name wrong

I know what you mean about the bathing! Mine are the same way. I mist them, also, and they don't really seem to like that too much, either.

I know exactly what you mean about the feathers. It seemed like it would never end. But thankfully, it did. Now it's just the usual amount.

I think they are totally gorgeous!

Thank you Randy and Sandy I will tell them people think they are pretty even when moulting, Henry tends to cheep back when I talk to him so I'll pretend he understood!

Sandy I'm so glad my birds aren't the only ones that done like washing!

Aww, very soon Pippin and Henry will feel a lot better and will even be more beautiful with their shiny new feathers!

If you offer them freshly washed leafy veggies, they may proceed to take a bath on the wet leaves. I know mine do and they love it!

I've tried many times aluz, during this moult to make them feel better and many times before and the greens just end up drying out and going limp. One day maybe they will enjoy a good wash.

Fluff, fluff, and more fluff. You'll have enough for a pillow soon They still both look adorable though!
