I still want to work with Skye individually to try and get him tame but quarantine is over and for him and he and Jay have been shouting a lot, so I thought I would let him see some bird friends.
As Saturday is always 'deep clean' day for the cages, I let the flock out (that's the 4 in the big cage).
Sunny has been giving Jimmy the brush off recently so he's started showing affection to Sage, who also does get some attention from Jay still but Jimmy seems to really be keen on having a female now (he wasn't so bothered to start with, but I guess he's decided girls are good).
Jimmy feeding Sage.
But Sunny was interested in Skye. I decided to keep him in his cage and let them do their stuff.
Here's Sunny, checking Skye out from my lamp from a distance. Jimmy is ignoring Skye because food!
Poor Jay is just chilling on his own.
Jay decided to be polite and go say hi.
After a while the flock went home to their cage for food. Now, Mummy may have thought they were all in and not noticed Sage hiding before she let Skye out, who went to say Hi and flew about after Sage for a bit. But, Skye was a very good boy and went straight back into his cage so I could let Sage back in. Once she was home, Skye came out and hung out on the other cage.
Jay came to say Hi again, so I let him out and they had a lovely time out together. But as I was tidying, I lost my phone at this time so I have no pictures. But Jay was thoroughly lovely and they had some nice time together (I thought it might be overwhelming for Skye to meet them all at once).
Jay went back in and Skye has stayed out.
He spent some time at their cage, playing with their outside toys and then had a nap on their rope perch.
He did have a bit of a surprise when Sunny bit his foot (she's a foot biter- I have paper on top of the cage where the swings are to protect toes but she got him when he was climbing up the side!).
Now, Skye is enjoying a snack with me.
I have also decided to order a new cage. Jimmy and Jay have been fighting a bit recently (thankfully, nothing nasty, just chasing the other one off when they dare to sit on the same perch!) and what with Sunny's disinterest of the boys and them both trying to dazzle Sage. I always thought I'd put Jimmy and Sunny together but her recent behaviour, I think I might put her with Jay. he sees to leave her to her own devices and not bother her. Jimmy can be a bit full on and I think he annoys her.
So I'm going to be splitting them up and I'm hoping with the interest Sunny has shown in Skye and Jay and Sunny's good relationship a threesome (oo-er) might work. Skye is a content little budgie getting to spend some quality time with budgie friends right now. I'll be continuing to watch them and see who will work best when splitting them up.
Of course, if threesome doesn't work, there's always that looming number 6 to consider.
Hopefully, the cage will arrive this coming week. And as I'm on holiday, I have lots of time to spend with the birds and on the forum.
Another reason I have them all in the same room is my niece is coming up who is terrified of birds! She had a pigeon in the classroom experience at school and she's so scared of birds now. She was scared of Jimmy on her last visit, alone in his cage, so I imagine 5 birds isn't going to go down much better! Whoops!
