Default Then and Now

I've had Jimmy for about 4 months now and he's made some great progress.

When I see the others with Skye, I'm reminded what a little baby he is still and decided to put together these pictures with some of the first pictures I got of my budgies and some taken this last week.

Poor Jimmy. With mites and moulting, he looked a little bit of a state when I first got him. Since then, he has come on leaps and bounds. He is the fastest flier of the bunch and does lots of sharp turns compared to the others and navigates the room beautifully. He has learnt to love baths and veggies, but still can't convince any of them to try pellets yet.
Jimmy loves to be with other birds and especially loves to cuddle up at night. The other birds do not always agree with Jimmy on the matter. He is also the gentlest biter I have ever known (luckily for me!).

With Skye being the youngest (I think) and the newest, he hasn't changed much. I was won over by his beautiful colours and just couldn't resist getting him. He is very curious and has been the only budgie to willingly come over and see me, without a treat being offered first and has encourage the others to come and see me too. Although he is little, he always sticks up for himself and isn't a pushover. He loves his budgie friends and hopes he'll get one of his own one day soon.

Jay was the first bird my Dad picked out and he seems to have a habit of picking birds with scruffy feathers.
Jay is a very gentle, sweet bird who will cuddle up to his buddy and look after his girl. He loves to sit tall and straight and show how much bigger he is than everyone else. He is sweet enough that he will take care of a new budgie friend and look after them, but he also wants everyone to know he is the boss!

My first impression of Sunny was a very bossy, grumpy female. However, after getting to know her, she is a much more gentle bird than I originally thought and though she shows the boys a thing or two from time to time, she is not as bossy or grumpy as she first seemed. She also has a bent tail feather when I got her, but that has gone now in her moult. Sunny, like Jimmy, loves bath time (if she can get in) and is also a big fan of the veggies. She loves to sleep on her swing at night and sometimes allows Jimmy to share with her.

Sage is Queen Bee of the flock. She does what she wants to do and isn't influenced by them as much as the others. When she wants to go into the cage, she goes and lets the others have their fun. Like Jay, she has only ventured into the bath in a very small way and has yet to fully embrace it.
Sage also usually makes the decision about what cage her and Jay will be in for the night. More acrobatic than any of the others (though Skye has been known to do some crazy things on occasion), she is a bit of a trouble maker- getting into all sorts of bother and constantly unhooks the water pot and lets it spill of the bottom on the cage. Thanks Sage!

What an amazing transformation regarding Jimmy, and seeing the others grow and blossom under your care is lovely.
Thankyou for sharing this wonderful pictorial time frame.

I forget myself sometime. I was so worried when I first got Jimmy but now I barely think about it. He's done so well and looks so healthy.
I hope you do a post too. I'm still learning about all the other budgies here and some then and now posts would be amazing to see.

Thanks. I went from 1 to 5 pretty quickly but I love my little birds and their personalities and am grateful to have such a lovely flock.

She likes to think so. I guess I should be grateful she's not trying to suss how to open the cage door.
