Default Budgie Mischief

Hi Everyone! Does anyone else notice that when one budgie does something bad, every one wants to do it? They're like toddlers.

Here is my darling Fred deciding that the proper eating technique is to physically get inside your food dish. Another one of her favorite things to do is walk around the bottom of the cage with empty millet sticks in her mouth, then put them in the bird bath, and then swirl around the sticks in the water so that it sloshes all over the place.

Here's Charlie deciding that the best way to play with your toys is to stand on top of them, giving mom a heart attack because she thinks you're going to fall.

Here's Ginny deciding that she needs to take a bath in the water dish right after I've refilled it. I love how Georgie is just in the background like what the heck are you doing, woman?! He is the best behaved out of all my budgies.

But he does like to get into trouble occasionally. Here he is as a baby sampling my wires. (They weren't plugged in and the picture was an accident. He was standing next to them, I went to take a picture and next thing I know they're in his mouth. he decided "I don't know what this is so I'm going to put it in my mouth", again like toddlers , but he didn't actually bite into it.)

Does anyone else have a bunch of crazy, naughty birds? I would love to see pictures. I feel like I'm raising a flock of juvenile delinquents.

Such great photos... made me smile for sure. Yes, mine are sort of like that, too! If I have decided to block off an area for a good reason, they are determined (as a group) to go there for sure. Or.. if one decides to buzz me while flying about, they all seem to follow that lead.
Your birdies have quite the antics!

They do seem to have that mischief managed, don't they? Heavens, even if they didn't solemnly swear they were up to no good, it would be obvious they were up to something

What silly budgies!

It's always entertaining to see them playing, even if some little mischief is involved!

Just so you know, you may need to replace that food container with a different one that doesn't have such a big opening to allow your budgies to get inside.
There have been cases where some hens will lay eggs on such food containers and their easy access can turn your females broody.
The same thing goes with the birdie hut you have on the cage, this can be also seen as nesting area and encourage breeding behaviour/egg laying.
Not only that, these birdie huts can also be hazardous to your budgies' health especially if they happen to chew through the fabric as the ingestion of the fibres from the material can cause digestive issues and in extreme cases crop impaction.
Also their feet can get caught on the loose strings of the chewed up fabric.
I strongly recommend you to remove the birdie hut and to pay special attention to your girls when it comes to using the food container to just spend time in and even nap. If you notice this, it's best to be safe than sorry and get another food container with a much smaller opening where only the budgies' heads will fit in for eating purposes only.

When you have the time, also be sure to read the extra info on this link below:

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed my pictures.

I haven't noticed the girls hanging out in the food dishes just to be in them. They usually hop in there when they want to eat. Or to kick the seed husks everywhere and make a giant mess. But that's usually because I fill the dishes with less seed and more pellets because I'm in the process of breaking their stubborn eating only seed habit.

I took the pineapple out a while ago, when I took the roof off the big cage and stuck the little one on top. The way the bird bath was, their poop would land in and it ended up looking pretty gross by the end of the day. So I moved it to where the pineapple was and it's not a problem any more. Plus, they hated the pineapple. I thought it was adorable but they're weren't having any of it. I would try to trick them to go in by putting millet inside, but they'd just get mad and pull the millet out.

I definitely will not be putting it back in now that I know it's bad for them. I really really don't want eggs, so I will be sure to check out that link. If I happened to find one in the cage, I think I'd cry. I would have no idea what to do with it.

Hehe yep! Sometimes they like pulling on the blanket or curtains, or slapshing water EVERYWHERE! Tulip likes to spin around everywhere in the food silo, which wastes some seeds! Oh well, they have fun

Yes, good photos! And lovely birds. Yes, naughtiness seems to run in their blood sometimes......and if you tell them to stop, even with the well recognised "no + budgie name!" it can occasionally be like a moth to the flame.

I wonder if anyone has experienced the 'dive-bombing walls' trick? Fly towards a wall, sharp turn cleverly releasing a huge poop at just the right moment so that it sticks. I have had 2 dive-bomb offenders before!
