Vastu arrived yesterday! Vastu is a Sanskrit word for Vedic architecture & I like the sound of it. He is blinking & closing his eyes when I sing & talk sweetly to him. Hasn't explored yet except to move up his ladder. Can't tell in this photo but his cere is bright pinky-lavender so I think he's a boy. I decided to have 2 boys because I don't want our animal care-givers to have to deal with preventing nesting & eggs when I travel. Now Vastu & Chittiv, who we have had for 2 months, are singing to each other from their different rooms. In 8 weeks he can move in with Chittiv in the BIG bird house. That cage is over 5 ft. wide so they can fly in it. I had thought maybe 4 budgies would be wonderful, but now I think 2 will be perfect. They'll have lots of space & I can give them more individual attention. Our family consists of 2 cats (outdoor), 2 guinea pigs, 2 humans, & now 2 budgies. What might be his genetic mutation type?
I'll get more photos soon showing his front. He is so calm & interactive, not terrified. He has no problem with my hand in his cage to clean, just happily keeps eating. Loves to be talked to. He is exploring now. No pacing. Do the different mutations/colors have different personality traits? Like with guinea pigs--the ones with all the cowlicks (Abyssinians) are more mischievious, loud, & active, while the short & smooth-haired Americans are more calm (& sensible, ha ha).
I did notice his fluffy cheeks because Chittiv's are not like that. Is it because of his mutation type or because he is younger? He is so cute! Spreads out his tail & wing feathers when I talk to him & sometimes talks back to me. Sure is a calm baby. He came into Petco the day before I got him, so didn't have time to be part of the wild little flock like Chittiv did. I sang to him all the way home. It's going to be so fun to see them get together later.
