Default My Flock (Ongoing Thread)

Hi All! I keep asking myself, how did I end up with a flock?

Well, I was wanting to get a new flight cage for my three birds and happened to look on craigslist where someone had the exact cage I wanted but it came with two male budgies. And, one of those male budgies was only missing one color mutation that I was keeping an eye out for....And after reading here, I found that having an even number of birds is better for a flock. 6 budgies here I come!

Here is my flock:

I do not know how I was without budgies for so long. I love having these guys in the house! So far all of them will eat Kale, broccoli, and sugar snap peas along with seed mixes like Brown's Encore, Kaytee Fiesta, and Lefeber's Nutri-Berries. I will keep trying other vegetables, but for now I am happy that they will at least eat a few.

The flock thing sort of creeps up on you, can't have just one
I recently added a new one too, giving me now an odd number, one more is now needed to even things out.
You have a great looking flock.

Your flock is beautiful!

It sounds like you've got quite a happy family, and I can see that from the picture, too

What are their names?

Also, I know they've already met each other, but when introducing new birds to a flock, they should be quarantined from the others for a minimum of 40 days to prevent the spread of possible illness that the new budgies could be hiding

If you did not quarantine them, it's worth getting check ups on the new budgies at least to rule out any possible illnesses

Your budgies are quite beautiful.
What a lovely color combination you have in your flock!
I'll be looking forward to seeing more pictures of them.

Excellent advice StarlingWings!

The two craigslist guys were together with their previous owner in that cage for 2 years so I viewed that as quarantine... In the future though, I will be more careful. A visit to the vet for a well checkup should happen anyway.

The names of our bird from left to right in the first post image: Licorice, Noodles, Sunny Bird, Sprinkles, Abacus, and Checkers below. Licorice (one of the birds that came with the cage) is nearly the color/mutation I was keeping an eye ball out for; the only thing he is not is spangle, but he is beautiful nonetheless!

Is Noodles a sky blue dilute? Noodles is the other bird that came with the cage .

I still find it crazy that I ended up with all males! That is a very good thing since I have a flock now.

It's great to see your very colourful flock!
Your Noodles is a gorgeous sky blue greywing budgie.

I am once again confused about a color mutation.... I was looking at this page Clearwing Greywing Or Dilute? - Cute Little Birdies Aviary which made me thing that Noodles was a dilute and not a greywing.

I am obviously not correct, but would you be able to help me understand what the difference(s) that makes Noodles a greywing instead of a dilute?

Hi

Although for a greywing, his cheek patches are very pale, what gives it away is his wing markings. Within mutations, there can be great variability in markings, for example, a budgie could be very heavily dominant pied and very lightly recessive pied and they may look like the same mutation, even when they are not.

Noodles is a very pale greywing, but his wings are still a few shades too dark to be considered dilute
