Default The Tales of Peta

Peta has this trick of flying straight at my face, landing somewhere in the region of my glasses, then diving head first down between one of the lenses and the eye. If she's allowed to, she will hang there happily and nibble. Or fall asleep. Photos are tricky when half blind so instead, here is a sketch of the before:-

And one of the after:-

I'm sorry but I can't help laughing. I know what it's like to have a budgie (or lovebird) wedged between one's glasses and face.

However, I must admit I've never had one try to actually sleep in that position.

To actually let any bird (lovebird?!!) fall asleep like that smacks of a level of tolerance way beyond the call of duty to avian-kind.

shane, the trick is to be brave and Not duck! Or to put it another way, Not Duckie
If you do, she might well land her sharp claws on something else softer and more sensitive while you were bent over

Thanks Star! Hilarious to those watching maybe!

Here is today's adventure: (especially for all those birds & people who would love to be in a peaceful wood now in the countryside.)

Peta, Duckie Pencil and I were playing ping pong on the play-tray, listening to Danish radio, when this came on:

https://youtu.be/MNuOzLKWSNo
Alain Morisod and Sweet People "And the Birds were Singing"

All change! Peta switched modes & wanted to join in with all the birds singing their hearts out. It's now in her favourites playlist! Think she's a country girl.

Listen out for the beloved cuckoo, now sadly much missed around here.

Ohh my gosh I am glad I saw this thread! It's kind of hard to see with a budgie stuffed in your glasses isn't it .

I love Duckie Pencil! It makes me smile whenever I see Peta with her beloved Duckie! I'm looking forward to seeing more of her adventures!

Have you noticed how Peta loves Duckie so much that she's given her a necklace? Yeah, made of lowly cardboard only but love shines through the thought that counts...

I wondered how Peta would react to a nightingale's song. So I played her the famous live recording of a nightingale singing in a Surrey garden (in the south east corner of England).

And she loved it! Her chirping is no match for the nightingale, but who cares?

This live recording became an annual event after the BBC made their first ever live broadcast in 1924 of the nightingale singing to accompany a cellist who used to play in her garden.

But in 1942, the live broadcast of the singing also happened to pick up the sound of a fleet of 197 heavy bombers (Wellingtons and Lancasters) on their way to Germany on a raid. The sound of the bombers gradually gets louder and then fades as they pass over. There were 11 fewer planes on the return journey. It's very evocative.

More of this extraordinary story with the first old 1924 recording with the cello and the 1942 one with the bombers is told here:

The cello and the nightingale - BBC News
