Jimmy spent yesterday with Skye and Star. Today I let him out and he was socialising with Jay & Sage.
First Jay came to sit with him.
Then Jake and Sage stopped by.
Jake soon left but Sage stayed put!
Jake keeps an eye on them while Sage gets some beauty sleep
Apparently Sage shrinks when she sleeps.
Also, we made another decision.
Originally, we got Sadie as a new bird and would add a new friend for her that was also a youngster.
We discussed her becoming Jimmy's new cage friend, if they accepted one another, but from the short time I've had Sadie, I think her personality might be a little more assertive than Jimmy would like.
Sunny was a very gentle bird and fit with Jimmy's passive personality perfectly. While Jimmy is doing well with the other birds to socialise with, he clearly misses her and having bird friends is helping, but it's not the same as his own mate.
I keep thinking back to when we had Jimmy on his own and he was so sad without a budgie friend.
Considering the quarantine period, we decided to go ahead and purchase a new female budgie.
We spent a long time mulling this over as there are some factors that we had to weigh into this. Firstly, quarantine space. The downstairs of the house is mostly open plan, except the conservatory but currently we can't keep a bird in there. Sadie is in the only spare room meaning we can't keep another bird in the house.
My friend, in a pet free, no kid, no smoking responsible house has agreed to keep the bird for me during quarantine.
Secondly, we decided to get a female that isn't a baby, like Sadie. This was the tough part as I spent ages looking at the birds and finding a girl who seemed to have a gentle personality (it's never easy in pet shops).
I spent a bit of time with her while she was settling in and she seems to have a good nature to her, is curious and looking fit, if not a little shabby.
Her beak however is a little overgrown. I have got a bunch of things to help her with gnawing on stuff and I'm going to give it a week or two and see if there's an improvement. Otherwise she'll be having it trimmed.
This girl is going to be called Jenny.
