So this is Artoo (who just woke up from a nap)! I posted in the Introductions section earlier this week about how I found her outside on my pergola on 18 July. I tried to find her home, but to no avail. So I am giving her a home with me!
I brought her to the vet on Thursday for a complete check up and since she has a slight case of scaly face mites (poor thing), the vet (who only specializes in birds!) gave her a shot of Ivermectin. I will be bringing her back on 8 August for her second injection, and then again on 18 August for a followup visit.
Since I’ve been taking care of her, I’ve been introducing her to vegetables! And she has some instant favorites — broccoli, carrots, and celery greens. I chop everything up very fine for her and mix in a little seed and she goes for this “salad” first! I was really surprised and pleased! The other day I tried to give her a bit of strawberry and cherry cut up in her treat cup and she threw a little ack ack ack stompy-foot-birdy tantrum and refused to even taste it! After about an hour, I made her the salad she was clearly expecting and *then* she was happy. She even took a nap on the treat cup.
Today I put together some “egg food” and she liked it! I ate some hardboiled egg with her too to show her that it was good stuff. I would have never known to do any of this had I not found this forum. It’s really helped me to help her.
Artoo is very lucky to have chosen you to live with, it is great you are treating the Mites. Ivemectin is the best treatment for these pests. It can also be given as a topical treatment, simply apply a drop of the liquid at the back of the head area.
Looking forward to seeing more of you both soon.
