Bubs was on my finger at the mirror then went to the top of the wine rack. Straight away he looked down onto it and knew to step onto the right part. This was the first time I had put the mirror out. Budgies are so clever. Such an interesting pet to have.
You will have to be careful with mirrors/mirrored toys because some budgies (as well as other species of pet birds) can develop an unhealthy attachment to them. Single budgies are particularly at risk, they can bond very closely to their reflection and be overprotective towards them and this will negatively impact the already established bond between the budgie and the owner (or to prevent the progression of the early bonding process).
In extreme cases, the pet bird's mental health and general welfare is at risk due to excessive regurgitation onto the mirror (leading to weight loss) combined with matings.

RIP sweet Tito (Summer 2008 - January 17th 2013).
You are missed and never will be forgotten.
Bubs does have numerous mirrored toys. I have him next to me and he is moving around the cage doing various things. I must admit he does get obsessive at times. I will monitor behaviour with toys and if he becomes set on a certain toy I will take it away for a while. My aim is to build up toys to rotate them. Thank you.
