Default Eve

Back at Christmas time, I visited my local pet store with my niece and sister-in-law. It was Christmas Eve as they surprised my Dad with a Christmas visit.
We needed to get some supplies from the pet shop and I went and got the birds a pre-Christmas treat.

As always, I paid a visit to the budgies and there were some nice ones there.
There was an English budgie that stood out as I've never seen an English budgie at any pet shop so far (Lucy came from someone else). But, I have plenty of birds and thought no more about it.
The other week I popped into the pet shop and again, did the budgie visit and saw the same female budgie still there. This is almost two months later and I felt bad for her and decided that if she was there the next time I visited, I'd give her a forever home.

So.... today I had to pop in for something for my dog, Holly and she was still there. Lots of new budgie friends (last time she was the only one, and still no one wanted her). So I made the decision to take her home.

I've decided to call her Eve. I don't plan to get any others to even up my numbers, but if needed I will do. The girls tend to just like being left alone so I might eventually give Eve a cage with Lucy, if they get on well.
I'm just going to see how things go with her introduction into the flock when the time it right.

I believe she is a lutino, she has red eyes and is an English budgie as well.

This is the best picture I could get of her, I didn't want to upset her too much. She's very calm and even in the pet shop when I spoke to her, she was never very nervous.
Obviously, she's a mature girl, but that doesn't bother me. I'm just happy to give her a loving home.

And in case it's not obvious, I named her Eve seeing as I first saw her on Christmas Eve.

Congratulations on your latest arrival, Eve a real beauty!

She's not a lutino. Besides having red eyes, lutino budgies are fully yellow and have white cheek patches.
From the little I'm seeing, your new girl is possibly a lacewing budgie.
She seems to be single factor golden face and sky blue in colour.

Aw, I know *so* little about mutations, it's amazing, lol!
I don't understand how you guys store it all in your heads. I clearly know nothing.

I'll try and get some better pictures of her for clarity of her mutation, not that it matters much either way, but I do like to know what their mutations are.

Little Eve is very fortunate to have you as the one to give her a safe and loving forever home. She will benefit from your care and attention for the rest of her life!

It's truly wonderful that you decided to bring her into your heart, home and flock.

Oh gosh how absolutely beautiful Eve is! Congrats. I do understand your idea of not feeling like you 'need' to even up the number until you see how things go first.

I absolutely her color mutation Emma! I've never seen such 'interesting' mutations in the English budgies here where I am.

Thanks Deb.

I felt so bad for her and I even spoke to the man in the pet shop about the fact she'd been there so long and he said he didn't understand why no one wanted her because she was such a nice colour.
I do think some might have thought she was a 'grown up' bird so the others would have been babies.
Or maybe she was just meant to be mine!

The way things are with my flock, they don't ll hang out in pairs, so if she has a bond with someone, no one bird is going to get left out because the majority aren't bonded to anyone. Star & Jay are still the only male/female pairing and the boys are still bonded as they were, so that's six budgies that don't have a bond with any one so I don't see the need to add further to the flock when she's likely to be content with them as they are.

She's a very pretty colour. I think that was the other thing that made me notice her when I saw her. I just can't believe no one took her home!

I got a few more pictures of her. She's very sweet and has started to chirp now. She has a very distinctive sound. She's also settled well and is excited because she can hear the others and she's a lot more active than Lucy. She's climbing around her cage, flying to the bottom and then climbing up again, flock calling.

Here she is anyway.

Edit: she has a pink swing in her cage as well and I just sat and watched her go crazy rocking her self back and forwards on the swing. It was so cute! She seemed like she really enjoyed it, but she was not graceful, lol!

Tuckered out from her busy day, Eve is going to sleep on her swing.

She's very pretty, I really like that soft yellow color. I got my boy Louie the same way, he was in a shop that I used to go to for various things and he was there for a few months and I said the same thing to myself. Just figure she was meant to be yours or she would not have been there so long waiting for you.

I think if she hadn't been an English budgie, I wouldn't have noticed her that first time. But she's mine now and she seems lovely, a real sweet girl.

I'm also a firm believer in fate, Cody, so am thrilled to have this lovely girl here with me.
