Pablo has a cage full of stuff to keep him entertained!!! Lucky boy!

Does he get to come out for a fly around?
As wonderful as his cage is, there's so much jam packed in there's little space for him to spread his wings (or at least, the picture gives that impression).

I also notice you have sand on the cage floor. As you also have food containers on the floor and some items are quite low, it's possible that Pablo could ingest some sand, which wouldn't be good.
It might be better to use paper towel or paper at the bottom of the cage.

We have gone overboard a bit haven't we lol. We're actually in the process of moving some things outside of his cage (the dining room) which is now his room . After reading over everything on here, I had ordered some natural Perches which had just arrived this morning. I put them all in to see what he preferred. As for his floor , that is actually just brown paper like what you would wrap a post office box with, I initially tried sand paper in half of his cage but read that it wasn't necessary. He is only 5 months old and didn't seem to eat from dishes hooked to the side of his cage so I use ceramic dishes on the bottom which he seems to prefer. I agree it's over the top at the moment but promise we are in the process of rearranging things
I do have a question though , I only use the paper on the bottom because the breeder said it was what he was used to being young, is there a point when I can just use it in the under tray ? I've only had one other bird and it was a much larger breed (yellow amazon) so this little guy is different for me.

It's hard not to get a little carried away when we like to spoil our budgies! I have a draw full of bits I rotate when I change their cage around so they can have new things even if I haven't got them anything new.

It's great that you have some natural perches and have been looking around the forum to get some ideas about what you need for little Pablo.

Brown paper is just great. My eyes clearly aren't very good!
A lot of birds prefer to 'forage' for their food as it's a natural instinct with them. Once you've cleaned the cage in the morning, you can sprinkle some seed onto the paper and he can run about getting it.

What I would try is covering half the grate with paper and putting paper underneath the whole cage as well. It might be that he doesn't like walking on the grate straight away and can stay on the paper side, but should get used to it with some time. It shouldn't be a big adjustment for him though.

Therm has given you good suggestions with regard to the bottom grate and paper.

I personally prefer to have the paper on top of the grate rather than under it for a couple of reasons.

Doing so makes cage clean up much quicker and easier as you can take up the old paper and replace it quickly without having to scrub the bottom grate each time.

I believe the birds like walking about on top of the paper rather than having to "perch" on the grates on the cage bottom. The flat surface helps to exercise their feet.

Scattering their seed on the freshly changed paper allows them to engage in more normal foraging behaviors.

Thank you both for the great suggestions
I'm so happy to have found this site as I've researched online before finding this site and received a lot of false information regarding budgies. So thank you again !

I'm glad the forum has been helpful to you- that's exactly what we want it to be.

I have a grate in my cage and I keep paper on top, but put some at the bottom as well just so if any paper gets disturbed while I'm at work, any mess gets caught by the bottom sheets still.
