Default The Adventures of Puck (On-going Thread)

Hi everyone!

Last night I bought my first bird ever, a little budgie named Puck. I'm still getting to know him, and I'm still learning a lot. Since I'm trying not to overwhelm him, I've only taken a couple of pictures and they were from a distance.

I've read all the threads written to help people learn how to tell the sex and type of their budgie, but I'm still not 100% confident I'm right about him, so if anybody has any insight, I would be so grateful to hear what you think!

In the meantime, meet my little buddy! I'll be posting pictures of him progressively as we bond and he gets more comfortable.

Ah! Thank you!

I've been reading everything, but I think I'm just not very confident, yet, haha. First time mom jitters, and all. I'm so surprised by how big his personality is already, even being shy still.

Is there any trick to telling an age for a lutino like him? His eyes don't have a red tint, and I can't seem to see any iris rings, but I've read that sometimes lutinos don't have iris rings? I'm thinking he's kind of young.

I intended to buy from a breeder, but I saw him when picking up supplies at Petsmart and he was actually following me as I walked back and forth browsing the shelf across from him. I had my heart set on a little yellow like him, so I just couldn't leave him behind, but the people knew almost nothing about the birds there.

! Looks like Puck has a great cage set up! I have a female lutino I got in the fall, so I can tell that Puck is male. I picked mine for personality based on about an hour of observation. I am curious to hear more about Puck's personality that is coming through so far.

Good luck with your new companion!

Aw, thank you! I have some more toys coming in the mail for him. This bird is gonna be spoiled rotten, I swear. I've wanted a budgie for yearsssss. I'll be posting more pics of his cage in full view later on, but I haven't been able to get a good clear one yet. The lighting in my room isn't the best.

Lutinos do not have iris rings. It is hard to tell much about age. I figured that mine was 6-8 months when I got her. I have had her for three months, and she is going through a molt now.
