This thread is solely dedicated to a budgie, that has shown incredible intelligence and beauty... at such a young age.
He has been referred to as a prodigy by many bird owners who have come to play.
I got him from PetSmart (don't judge) I wanted to give this bird a chance. The cage I first saw him in was tiny, chaotic, and packed with a bunch of other wild budgies. I looked in the flock, and at the front was this white puff ball.
He immediately stopped playing with the bird next to him, and walked up to the side of the cage I was looking in.
Guys, the look River gave me, I swear he was asking me to Get him outta there.
He looked miserable, and I was worried he might be sick. But the employee let me look at him outside of the cage in the back room and I could tell he was perfectly healthy, just not as frantically active as his other cage mates.
Ive had him for three weeks now, and we are best buds. He stepped up on my finger within the 3 days,
and since then is a pro at stepping up, sitting on shoulders, and being adorable. He is an awesome companion, and I never thought I'd get that from a bird. He wants to walk all around the house with me, watch tv, play on the computer, and eat millet. He has never bitten me. I didn't clip his wings, and his flying skills are impressive. I haven't taught him to land on my finger... but we have already made good progress I think
HE WONT EAT TREATS OUT OF MY HAND!
Even though I'm pretty sure he's not afraid of my hand.. because he steps up on my finger/hand all the time and even runs to it for safety if he accidentally ends up in a place he doesn't want to be in. Any suggestions?
So.... this thread is to follow the life of a Budgie named River.
BTW if you want to share pictures of your budgies here too that is okay. ESPECIALLY WHITE ONES! Just make sure River knows how handsome he is.
P.S. I know I said his wings were not clipped, yet in the pictures they clearly are. I decided to take him to a vet 2 days ago and have his wings clipped because I had to bring him home for spring break and my dads house has super super high ceilings with chandeliers and window sills that may have caused an issue. I plan to let his wings grow back in and keep him flighted. I hated having to have them clipped, but it was the right thing for River's wellbeing.
ALSO. I posted a pic of his forehead just in case anyone was keen on telling the age of budgies... I am not sure how old he is, I assume he young, but I would love to know an estimate. Any input appreciated.
AND SHARE YOUR WHITE BUDGIES! or any other color, I love them all
