Default New addition...

Just rescued this budgie from Petsway. Hoping it's a male clearwing but not too sure because I'm color blind and my wife isn't too knowledgeable with budgie mutations. Opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not an expert on mutations but he looks to be a male sky blue (maybe single factor violet?) normal budgie

Default Please help

I just rescued a budgie from a pet store conglomerate. Being color blind, I have a hard time seeing the cere color. The salesman said the bird is about 6 months old so would I be able to tell at this point? Thanks.

Looks like a young male, since he still has some barring.

Yep young male. Be sure to read through all the stickies and articles to ensure you are giving your new bird the best care possible.

He is a beautiful little male. Congratulations on your new addition -- so very cute!

Have you named him yet?

I merged your two threads regarding your new budgie and his gender.
Please do not ask the same question in multiple forums in the future.
Thanks!

On a totally separate note, if you want to rescue any future budgies please consider an Animal Shelter or Bird Rescue Organization.

Where I live, there are no shelters that take birds or anything like that. I live deep in rural America and am lucky they even have a pet store within driving distance.

Little Boy Bleu is adjusting normal and seems happy. When I was transferring him to his quarantine cage, he fluttered out and landed on my shoulder (his wings were clipped) and sat there for quite a while. When it was time for him to go to bed, out of curiosity I placed my finger in front of him. He climbed aboard and I put him to bed. Yesterday, I opened his cage and he just hopped out on my hand and sat on me for a while again. I'm convinced he was hand raised. I'll take some pics for next time, but he seems pleased to be out of that store environment. Or, is it just me... either way, he seems happy and that's the endgame, isn't it? Thanks for all the great responses.
