Bought from Pets At Home (evil place, why we went in I don't know).
Bamboo swing with pompoms.

Was fine until the wood got a little wet and Benny chewed it. He got extremely sick the following day to the point where we almost lost him. (Diarrhea, head tucked under wing, all fluffed up, tiny eyes, sitting on bottom of cage).
We figured it was the swing so took it out straight away and managed to save him after a couple of days of intense 'nursing'. I managed to save 2 of the pompoms which he loves and tired them onto a different toy.

There was nothing on the label to say if it was vegetable dye, lead based etc. we've learnt now. Nothing painted in this bird house.

He is Benny moddeling it before it turned nasty. Ps he loved it and was his fave toy.mye was very sad when we he realised it wasn't coming back.

While it didn't happen to one of my budgies, my yellow collared macaw got the top tie string loose and wrapped around his neck. Went to get him to step up and when he only put his one foot on my finger and didn't try to grab the piece of fruit I had for him, I realized what had happened. I cut the strings super short so it couldn't happen again. I would have thrown it away but the stinker loves the thing. Just wanted to give everyone an FYI.

Default DIY toys using cloth ribbons - FRAYING CAUTION

I searched the entire thread for "ribbon" did not see a post warning so I'm writing one.

Just over a year ago, I became a new budgie owner. I decided to make a few toys as I had ample cloth ribbon and bead supply.

Perfect! I thought....

Long story short here, his name is Thunderfoot, but we call him Stumpy. He just healed from his amputation.

I have a handicapped bird now The ribbon, while wide enough not to pose a hazard hanging straight up and down loaded with moveable beads, shredded on the ends.

The parakeets were busy playing and pulling with the frayed edges.

One budgies ankle became tangled and knotted too tightly around his leg.
I was not able to remove it.

Stay away from small threaded ribbons!
=====

Not so plus side. I have experience.
Feel free to ask me how to preform a successful amputation.

Today my budgie had the nail/finger trapped in the small hole above the bell from the classic Spray Millet Holder. I dunno how he succeeded to do that(he's really nosy), but I was really lucky to release him soon after, no damage to his nail/leg. So no Millet Spray Holders for us.

Ah, scary! My budgies have a similar one and they love it. But the holes on theirs is different - the holes are in a narrow rectangle shape.

Is this safe?

Super Bird Creations Lucky Ducky Bird Toy at PETCO

I got one for my budgies, I just want to know if it's safe before putting it in the cage.
