Default Chi-Chi after surgery

Chi-Chi's surgery to amputate his tail was almost three weeks ago, and this week was the first time he got to enjoy freedom outside of his cage once again! He has healed up nicely and is having no trouble flying or getting around. Tonight I gave him a yummy treat of lettuce sprinkled with pellet food, and he got to spend time with his favorite fishy friend! I took a couple videos and posted them to Photobucket. Nothing too fancy or exciting but I thought you guys might like to see the little guy doing so well without a tail!

Maggie, what a wonderful thing. He is so happy to be out and exploring. Tail or not, he is one handsome little fellow, and his balance seem's great. Thank you for sharing this wonderful little happy story with us...

Thank you all so much for being such great friends to me and Chi-Chi. Unfortunately I noticed yesterday that he is limping on his left leg and it has not gotten better since then :/ I do not know what could be causing it. I am hoping it will improve on its own but I am worried it could be something serious. He is still acting fine otherwise. Maybe he is experiencing arthritis since he is so old? I am unsure. I will have to take him to the vet again on Tuesday. I am so worried...

Smile Chi Chi

Start the electrolyte and liquid calcium to help increase nutrient support of the muscle, bones, nerves and joints. the vet may also give pain meds. Concentrated B vitamins in the electrolyte will help a lot to make the bird feel better. The increased transfer of brain chemicals between the ends of the nerves will improve how the bird feels and hopefully keep him from loosing the desire to eat. a heat lamp may also help relieve some experience of pain as the heat tends to relax muscles and nerves just as with people. He may have had a tumble. So consider lowering perches and putting a cushion of paper towels on the bottom of the cage.

Blessings and prayers for you and Chi Chi, Jo Ann
