A first not-very-good attempt at trimming a video Can't get the silly end bit to delete... Now if I was 15, this would be instinctual. Perhaps I have accumulated wisdom of the ages instead. Or perhaps not
Lol! Think it must be an odd quirk in her genes, with one brother and a half sister doing the same, but all the others not! She loved being held as a baby--unusually so, I gather, and now, if I scratch around on the paper with tented fingers, she will rush over to climb underneath & stay there. When she goes into the travel cage (for cleaning her main one) she will have a half hearted peck at the tempting millet, but then go for the real entertainment which is checking for monsters under the paper carpet
Awww that was super cute! I loved how she peaked out at you before coming out. She reminded me of my daughter and her constant need to make play forts out of blankets.
What is this thing about being under or behind??? When she's out of the cage now, her favourite perch is on my glasses. If she lands accurately (sometimes, no, often!, she doesn't -- it's on a cheek or nose or hair ), her next aim is to burrow behind the lense. That is, between the glass and my eye... If I do nothing about it, she will stay there quite happily. Urrrgh! Makes doing anything else useful quite tricky
When you think about it, that would make a good addition to the present game going on: "You know you are a budgie owner... when you answer the door with one in your eye..."
Some very young budgies feel much more secure and content when they are in snug places.
It is similar to the feelings they had in their nestbox and Peta is recreating that feeling of comfort and safety.

I'm sure you're right. And I assume she will probably grow out of it? In the meantime, I must just get used to being a one-yellow-eyed oddity with wonky glasses and scratched cheeks
Here she is happily being held by the breeder's daughter:
