For those of you interested in learning to Knit or Crochet...
Hi all!! I LOVE how many of our TB Crafters are coming out of the woodwork!! We've got a lot more talent than just being excellent budgie parents
Many of you have noted that you may want to pick up one of these crafts so I've put this thread together with a few FREE online resources that may help you in learning these skills!! There are tooooons of online resources, including tutorials and patterns (from basic to expert), that can help you teach yourself and practice!! All it takes is some determination (I've only been crocheting for 2 years and I taught myself through Youtube videos and many of these online resources! )
My personal #1 resources: https://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/ https://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/
These sites have more patterns than you could ever make in a lifetime!! They are a great go-to resource because they are a compilation of patterns and tutorials from TONS of other websites, so everything is all in one place for you and best of all, all of the patterns are FREE!! Not only are there patterns on here, there are also tutorials that show you step-by-step instructions for almost all stitches
Video Tutorials www.youtube.com
You can search for video tutorials on here for pretty much anything. I have personally used "The Art of Crochet by Teresa" many times for crocheting stitches and techniques and it was very helpful for me to see the motions in action (as opposed to looking at the steps on a page which can sometimes be confusing).
If you would rather have a book in your hand, there are books available at any craft store (and even other stores such as Walmart) for beginning knitters or crocheters that teach you all of the basics and get you started on your new venture!
A money-saving note: if you have craft stores near you (example: Joann Fabrics, Michaels, A.C. Moore) they ALWAYS have coupons available online. You can join their mailing lists and get coupons in the mail to your house as well as to your email. This is a website I use a LOT for printable coupons, which are updated weekly https://www.printable-coupons.blogspot.com/ If you look on the left-hand side of the page (in blue) you will see the store name, just click on it and you will get their latest coupons available!
A wonderful charity: https://www.snugglesproject.org/
This is a great way to practice creating smaller pieces and also give back!! The Snuggles Project is a global community where knitters, crocheters, and sewers make "snuggles" (mats and blankets) for animals in shelters. This site contains great patterns that are for any level of experience as well as locations of shelters in your community where you can donate your work!! I think this is also wonderful because it give you a great chance to practice without needing to be "perfect" (you are providing for the animals, and they aren't going to JUDGE you on your stitch work!! )
I hope this helps some of you!! If anyone else has any resources they would like to share please feel free!! The more the better Also, I think I speak for all of us crafters here when I say PLEASE ask questions if you have any!! We are always here to help Happy Crafting!!
