Default To know the gender of my new budgies buddies

Hi Everyone,

Im new to this whole website just got myself registered. Last 2 weeks back i got home 4 budgies from a local pet store. Im interested in birds and ofcorse by the compulsion of my daughter decided to have it. While choosing the budgies we dint look for the gender just purchased based on different attractive colors now i was just wondering if i could guess the gender of my new friends. I guess the green one is a boy and the remaining ones are all females. Could you please help me identify the gender. If im right should i get two more males to compensate the females. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Thashif Ashraf

Welcome to the forums! You have certainly come to the right place as you will find all you need to know on budgie care here.

From the photos, you do seem to be right about your budgie's genders.
The green one is male and the two blue budgies are definitely females.
Your yellow budgie is likely a female too, but a better and more close up photo would help confirm it. Does this yellow budgie have red eyes?

If you are new to budgies and their care, even if you have a flock of 3 females and one male, I wouldn't recommend adding more budgies at this point in time.

In order to avoid fights, you could house each pair separately and to spend time in getting better acquainted with the species.

Also if you have a nest box or anything that your budgies can use as a hiding spot, please remove it from the cage as to not encourage breeding behaviour and unwanted egg laying.

Be sure to check the info on budgie care by reading the Articles and sticky threads located at the top part of each section of the forums.

Looks like the green one is a male and the blue ones are female like aluz said. It kind of looks like your yellow one is a male though, maybe bacuse it's not close up and I can't tell. Congrats on your new budgies by the way.

This latest set of photos is much better and removes all doubt.
I now see that your yellow budgie is not a lutino, he is a pied budgie, very likely a combination pied.
The cere has an even purplish colour making your yellow budgie a male.
Due to his colour mutation, the cere will likely stay that purplish colour for the rest of his life.
No need to even out the flock since it's perfectly balanced.
