Default Girl budgie?

Don't worry, this little cutie is not mine! Six is my absolute max...

My sister decided she wanted to have a budgie again. Based on the pictures, I am thinking girl. What do you think? Also, what do you think the color mutation is?

From the photos I'm seeing a uniform purplish cere, making him a boy.

I think he is a dark green normal budgie, possibly single factor violet due to the bluish tinge on the feathers.

Thanks Aluz.

I am once again confused. My sister said around the nostrils is white... but because the cere is the uniform purplish this little cutie is a boy? Would a female have more of a bluish color with the white around the nostrils?

From these two photos, I'm not seeing any hint of white colour on the cere.
At this point I don't know if the pictures were taken in artificial lighting or not.
Young males have uniform pinkish/purplish coloured ceres, which in most colour mutations will later on mature to the royal blue colour.

Young females will have light bluish mingled with white ceres and prominent white circles around the nostril area. As the budgie ages, the white colour will spread and as they mature, the cere will gradually tan till reaching a dark brown colour indicating the hen is in breeding condition.

Gosh, my first thoughts were that there was clearly white around the nostrils and it was a hen! Perhaps my screen is not very accurate....

Thanks for those links! I put them on my favorites so I can easily find them later.

My sister sent me another picture today, and this angle is better so I see what you mean that this cutie is a male.

It also helped that she sent me this picture of two budgies she had been interested in which happened to easily show the difference between a young male (left arrow) and a young female (right female)!

I'm glad the gender mystery was solved and now you have a much better idea on the differences in cere colour!
The last photo of the two budgies is a perfect example!
