Default Meet Tiki!

Soooo, my husband gave me my birthday present a little early (my birthday isn't until tomorrow)

Say hello to the first feathered member of our family,Tiki!(alongside our two scaly, Crested and Gargoyle Gecko members)

Can anyone tell me what gender it is (I'm suspecting male because the cere looks purple to me), as well as the mutation name and age?

Aww, Tiki looks to be a handsome little boy indeed. He also kind of reminds me of a high school friend name Bobby with those cute wide-open eyes and round head

LOL! The funny thing is, the girl working at Petsmart told me that it was a female because the cere was a "pinkish" color. I had high doubts in my mind that her information was accurate because I could definitely see more of a lavender color (I have my experience from working in a paint/interior design department plus lots of outside budgie research on sex and cere color to thank for that distinction of color ). So, I ended up taking him home with me anyway because I highly believed him to be male

Most folks who work part-time at Petsmart or have a layman's understanding of budgies will consider all birds with blue cere are male and birds without blue cere are female...but us budgie connoisseurs here at TB should know better

Congratulations he's handsome!!!
I'm just learning about color mutations so Im sorry I can't be of any help

Nick was definitely correct about the workers at Petco and Petsmart. In fact I chose a boy a few months ago and the kid kept insisting the one I chose was a girl, when I deliberately chose a male. Finally I gave up and said ok well I'll take HER hehehe... sure enough the next day my friends here confirmed, a baby boy

Enjoy your new friend, he really is a fantastic color.

What a little cutie! Congratulations on your birthday present! A little boy for sure. I don't know about age, but looks young.

I will guess sky blue, opaline, single factor golden face. Maybe? We'll see if others will confirm or correct me .

Thanks,everyone!

Stacy, that's so funny because I ended up doing the same thing to the Petsmart employee and just played along with her when she kept referring to Tiki as a female At first, I actually kinda sorta argued with her about the gender, which was when she said because of the cere looking "pink" it was a female after I said that males can have a lavender/purple color cere. But to her, it was just pink. After she went to go help another person while I pondered my decision with my husband, I eventually still decided on Tiki because I just had a really strong feeling he was male (it was just frustrating having an employee who's opinion on the gender was opposite of mine, because I strongly preferred a boy budgie). When she came back, I was like "Well, I was talking with my husband, and I have changed my mind and I will go for the "female" one." I just kept playing along with her, lol. Mainly because I didn't want to be "that" person who tries to tell them how to do their job or something, lol.

Congratulations on your new budgie friend!
Tiki is a gorgeous boy! Looking at him, I'd say he is fresh from turning 5 months old.
The shade of blue looks darker to me to be sky blue and the opaline gene slightly dilutes the overall colour on the body feathers.
He could be sky violet, but I'm more inclined to cobalt blue single factor golden face opaline.
