Default New companion - gender?

Well, unfortunately my budgie "obi" died, he was a curious and fun chatty little friend whom was really tame and cuddly, so I went ahead and picked up a new companion after some grieving.

So, curious what the gender is, I'm leaning towards male. Only got it today... but I can't quite tell. Hope you guys can help out.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm sorry to hear of your Obi's passing, you have my deepest sympathies.

From the photos your budgie looks more like a girl to me.
On the first photo which was taken in better lighting, I'm seeing some white mingled with a light bluish colour.
On the last photo there also seems to be a prominent white colour on the cere in between the nostrils.

Hmm, yes I see some minor white around the nostrils. Was going for a boy, well, guess I'll have to check out how the female behaviour compares to male behaviour.

Females have the same potential for being good pets when compared to the males. What's more important is the individual bird's temperament/personality.
Just as an example, there are shy and quiet males as well as outgoing and playful females out there.

Sweet, thanks for the info. (s)he is playing around in the cage and looks pretty happy to me, hasn't sat still for very long yet.

Got it from the pet store, flew right up to the cage bars and looked at me, seeming quite interested while the others in the cage were flying around looking frightened, so I like to think it picked me.

Constant warbling is not a need for me, I'll try to train it to be social and cuddly as Obi was, hopefully it'll pick up a few things from my lazy and cuddly cockatiel.

That's so sweet! It seems like you have both made a really good first connection and hopefully this will translate into a great bond with your budgie.
