Welcome to the forums!

You have a gorgeous male budgie there. Since he is a recessive pied, the cere will keep the immature purplish colour throughout his life.
I have moved your thread to the Determining Gender section, where it's most appropriate.

Hello there and to the forums!

Congratulations on your little budgie! He is a beautiful little male

Although the lighting in the picture isn't the best for telling gender (as photos should be taken without flash and in natural light so as not to distort the natural colours of the cere), I believe from the uniform purple colour that your little bird is a boy

Young males have purplish or pinkish ceres with no white that have a slight pearly sheen. As they get older, it will mature into the usual royal blue colour in most mutations.

However, because your little one is a recessive pied budgie, he will keep the immature pinkish purple colour throughout his life, as well as his dark "baby eyes" with no iris

Does he have a name yet?

In the meantime, be sure to read through the Budgie Articles as well as the forum's "stickies" (posts "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on the very best budgie care and practices! If you have any questions after reading through anything, be sure to ask as we'd be pleased to help.

I'm glad you've joined the forums and we hope to see you around!

Oh thank u soo much, he was suppose to be a boy and then everyone was telling me he was a girl,My girlfriend is on here but she couldn't log in, we straightened that out now :-)
I'm just learning how to run the thanks again :-)
His name is Winston, I got him from my sister as she is in the hospital and can't take care of him, I'm so happy to hear he is a lil boy, makes me very happy, we have a female budgie named Fudgio, she needs a mate :-)
I wanna put them together but not sure what to do, I got a male budgie last year for her and I put him in her cage and she beat him up,He passed away Christmas day, not sure what happened but all of the buddies out of his clutch died :-( Fudgio is a mean girl, she bites us all the time :-( I would like to get her out of it if possible

Winston is a lovely name!

Be sure to quarantine your new boy for at least 40 days in a separate cage and room so that any illnesses he may be hiding (budgies hide illnesses as long as they can) are not passed on to Fudgio.

Due to your girl's violent nature and the fact that she injured and killed your other male budgie, she is not a suitable candidate to put with your new little boy as a cage mate and definitely not as a breeding hen. Any bird with aggressive tendencies should never be bred as those behavioural traits will be passed on to any babies and will cause more havoc. Additionally, breeding is not advised without extensive proper knowledge that is required to do so safely and effectively

From your description I'm sorry to say that your Fudgio is not fit to share a cage with another budgie due to her violent temperament.
The fact that she "beat up" your male budgie who passed away and you also had issues with the chicks make it even more evident that Fudgio is also not fit for parenting as the violence/attacks will be taken upon the chicks and that coupled with the general neglect must have led to the chicks' passing.

This is a very serious matter. For the overall safety and welfare of both of your budgies, it's best that you keep Winston housed separately from Fudgio on a permanent basis.
By letting them share a cage, the chances of the same type of abuse and episodes of vicious fighting are much higher and you can end up with a severely injured or dead bird.

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Winston is a very cute little fellow!

Our experienced staff have given you the very best possible advice with regard to Fudgio.
Please ensure you always keep her in a separate cage from any other birds. Aggression such as what you described is not something you can take a chance with - ever!

Please take the time to read through all of the How To Guides, the FAQs and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

You'll find most of your basic questions about budgies and caring for them will have been answered after you've read through all of them.

Is there anyway to get her out of it? Ive been letting them fly around together and they love it, I put him in with her yesterday in a different cage, and she was kissing him and everything, it was so cute, She didn't kill my other male, he was sick when I got him and didn't know, his whole clutch all died, so I don't think it was her, he didn't have marks on him, feathers were not missing, Fudgio is laying eggs like crazy, I'm afraid she's gunna get egg bond :-(
