Hi all! I know time will tell but thought I'd send a pic just in case anyone more experienced could tell what gender Lilac is. She's only 4 weeks so it may be difficult.
I'm also a new budgie owner and have some concerns I'll post on the appropriate forums.
Thanks!
When you are able, you should get him a square or rectangular cage that is not any smaller than 18 inches x 18 inches x 18 inches. Round cages are much too small for budgies and can also be disorienting to them, as they have no sides. Additionally, be sure to get him plenty of natural wood perches of varying shapes and diameters instead of his dowels to keep his feet healthy!
It's wonderful to have you with us and I look forward to seeing more of you both around the forums!
Meanwhile, be sure to read through the forum's many Budgie Articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subform for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on all the best practices for budgie care.
If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask!
Cheers

Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
Thanks again! I had in my head she was a girl (I read that the white rings around the nostrils indicated it) but had no idea at all. I'm delighted Lilac is a boy (I wanted to call him Violet but my husband preferred Lilac)
Yes, definitely getting a new cage. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.
You're right that white rings around the nostrils indicate female, but this is more like light pink along with a very clear pink cere, which indicates male. It's quite confusing to keep track of it all, honestly
I can't wait to hear more about Lilac!

You might send a few other photos of close up with natural daylight. A male shows purplish fleshy/pink and as young females age the cere become more diluted blue with whitish surrounding the nostrils.
Looks like a male from your one photo. Very handsome.
Lilac is beautiful and looks like a very sweet little budgie!
