You have a gorgeous little boy Btw, the term parakeet actually refers to a collection of multiple bird species. A more specific name for the bird you own is a budgerigar or budgie

Hi there and to the forums!

You have a very handsome boy, congratulations!

Did you get him after you already had your blue girl? If so, did you quarantine him before introducing him to your current girl? It's very important to quarantine a new budgie for at least 40 days in a different room to ensure than no diseases he or she may be carrying are passed on to your current bird.

Here's a link with more information!

Since you have a mixed-gender pair, be sure you are doing everything you can to discourage egg laying. Here's a link with more information:

You've come to a great place to learn even more about budgies Be sure to look through the forum's many Budgie Articles and "stickies", which will ensure you're up to date on all the best practices for budgie care.

If you have any questions after reading through everything, be sure to ask! We look forward to seeing more of your budgies around the forums!

Cheers

Thanks so much! For awhile there I was starting to think he might be a girl since he's so quiet compared to my other budgie.
Also thank you for informing me that the term parakeet is not always referring to budgies. I had no idea!

Thank you for all your helpful tips!

I haven't named him yet since I wanted to see his personality first (and also find out his gender) .
I'll be sure to check out all the links you've provided.

Thank you so much for the help!

I got both budgies at the same time, but I'll be sure to quarantine any future budgies before introducing them. I was pretty sure I had a blue male but maybe I was wrong, he does have some brown feathers above his cere which are a bit concerning. I'll add a picture for reference.

I'm glad you posted a photo! Yes, you have two beautiful boys The slightly brown feathers above the cere are normal, sometimes some staining occurs and since the feathers are white it's pretty obvious.

I went off purely what I could see in your avatar, which was admittedly not much, so I'm glad to be able to say with certainty now that you have to BOYS!

That's a relief, I thought he might've been sick or something.
It's good to know that I don't have to worry about accidentally encouraging egg laying.

Thanks again for all your help!
