I thought my budgie was a boy but I was looking up some more sexing topics and some say white ring around nostrils with blue is a young female but mine is a little older. His blue is pretty bright so I thought was a boy. Is boy or girl? He is about a year old.

Hmm... I'm thinking female from this photo just because the cere is so pale around the nares. Females of any age can have a pale blue cere, it only changes to brown when they are in breeding condition.

I agree that it looks like a female. Perhaps you could post a couple more photos so we can be sure? Also how long have you had your budgie and what colour was it's cere when you first got it?

Hi! to Talk Budgies

The pictures need to be a full frontal view of the cere taken in natural light. No flash and no direct sunlight for us to see the actual coloration of the cere.

To upload full-sized pictures with the proper orientation, please use a photo-sharing service such as Imgur and follow the steps in these instructions:
How to Post Full Size Pictures from a Photo Sharing Site

By the way, all photos entered in any of our forum contests must be a full-size photo and not a thumbnail attachment so it's good to know how to upload them!

From what I see in your pictures, the blue portion of the cere is a very deep blue which indicates the budgie is a male.

Please try to get a better picture to upload for confirmation.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

Truly, the very BEST advice anyone can offer you is to take the time to read ALL of the stickies throughout the various Talk Budgie forums as well as the Budgie Articles we have posted.

These are great resources for Talk Budgie members and have a wealth of reliable information which will assist you to learn the best practices in caring for your budgies for their optimal health and well-being.

Hmm, more photos without flash would be helpful.
The first photo does seem to have a hint of pink on the right hand side (as I look at it) which is making me hesitate in saying female.

Your budgie is a boy. And he is cute. I had a budgie for years that looks like him, so I like your bird for bringing back good memories to me.

Without more photos, right now it's not possible to definitely say that it's a boy. In all cases the amount of white on the cere points to female, so unless more photos proves me wrong I'm going with girl
