Can anyone help me? My baby is around 9 months old I thought he was a boy but I am beginning to have doubts. He is albino although he’s eyes don’t always look red to me either. Help needed please
If the cere is a somewhat translucent pink/purple, Lemmy is a boy. It's a little difficult to tell from those photos on my computer. If matte, and white/pale blue, a girl. I know, I'm a lot of help, right?? Adorable, in any case.
Can anyone advise me if my birds wings have been clipped or if it could be French Molt? I got him from a pet shop and the guy who sold him to me said he hadn’t clipped his wings and they just haven’t grown out yet.. I didn’t believe him though.. he also sold him as hand tame and he was petrified of me.. progress is good though he has started eating from my hand...
I've merged your post about your green budgies' wings into your thread asking about the white bird's gender.
Please don't ask questions about your budgies in other people's threads.
Take a look at our Site Guidelines which explain about postings.
Your white budgie is definitely a male.
Yes, your green budgie's wings have been clipped. Unfortunately, you can't believe what people at pet stores tell you to be true.
Even "hand-tame" budgies have to have time to settle in and learn to trust you.
Taming and Bonding is all about helping your budgie learn to trust you and it takes a great deal of time and patience on your part.
You should never grab your budgie or force him to be touched.
To bond with your budgie, you need to build his trust in you.
He will have to learn over time that you will not hurt him, grab him and try to force him to allow you to hold him.
To build your budgie’s trust, sit by his cage and read, talk or sing quietly to him for a period of at least 10-15 minutes, 3 or 4 times day. After the 2nd or 3rd day, rest your hand on the outside of the cage when you talk to him so he'll learn that your hand is safe and will not hurt him .
After a week, rest your hand inside the cage when you talk.
Don’t make sudden moves, don’t try to touch him .
Let him get used to the idea that the hand is now in his safe place and not harming him .
After 2 weeks, begin moving your hand slowly toward your budgie. If he becomes agitated, stop moving your hand and just hold very still until he calms down. When he's comfortable with your hand near him , you can offer him a bit of millet or a few seeds. In a few more days, you can begin your taming and bonding sessions.
Always work at your budgie's pace.
Move slowly and talk reassuringly and calmly whenever you interact with him .
Most budgies once they pass the "baby" stage, do not like to be petted or touched.
If your budgie does like to be petted, you should only ever pet his head, neck or chest area.
Stroking a budgie's back and/or tail stimulates its breeding instinct. Bonding means allowing them to choose to be with you.
Thanks for that.. I’m sorry I jumped on someone’s thread I’m new to this and didn’t realise I had.. will the green budgie (Dio) his wings grow back? I’m doing well with the taming and bonding he eats out of my hand now, it helps that Lemmy (white) was tamed before I got Dio (green) although he has taken a step back lately and I feel I’m starting from square one! I would love to see him fully flighted one day.. when I saw he couldn’t fly I had to take him there and then I couldn’t leave him at the pet shop ?

Yes, Dio's flight feathers will grow back when he goes through a molt. You can give him egg food a couple of times a week to ensure he has enough protein for his feathers to be nice and healthy.
I'm actually 99% sure that your white budgie is a girl. Could you post more photos for us taken in natural light? The shadows and lighting make it hard to see the true cere colour.
Why did you want to leave Dio at the pet store?
You've been given great advice by FaeryBee. Be sure to read through the budgie articles and "stickies"(threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) on the forums to be sure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care practices. If you have any questions, please be sure to ask as we'd love to help!
Cheers!
