You have come to a great place to learn about best practices in budgie care. The very best advice is to read all the articles and stickies (stuck to the top of the forums).

It is best to get a head-on picture in natural light to tell the gender of birds. From what I can see in this picture, it appears that the bird further away has a brown crusty cere, indicating she is female. The closer bird appears to have a mauve cere, indicating he is male. What are their names? They are both beautiful! Since you have a mix gender pair, you will need to be sure to do everything you can to discourage breeding.

I look forward to seeing more pictures of your beautiful birds!

Hi! to Talk Budgies

As stated, you do have a male and female so it is VERY important you do everything possible to prevent breeding and your female is currently in condition.

Rearranging their cage frequently, and limiting the light they get to 8 hours a day will help tremendously. Please be sure you never put a nest box or anything that could be used as a nesting site in their cage.

When they come into condition, limit the amount of protein in their diet at that time.

With regard to the cage, I would recommend you replace any plastic or wooden dowel type perches with natural wood perches of varying diameters to help prevent pressure sores.
